Little Bones Lyrics

It gets so sticky down here
Better butter your cue-finger up
It's the start of another new year
Better call the newspaper up
2.50 for a hi-ball,
And buck and a half for a beer
Happy hour, happy hour
Happy hour is here

The long days of Shockley...

They came up with the idea when they were in New Orleans, which was the last city they were performing in while on tour. on the last day they were in a taxi cab and the band was eating chicken, the cab driver said "better eat that chicken slow, it's full of them little bones" and lead singer Gord Downie compared what the driver said to the book he had been reading about a cat named "Little Bones"... Them singing about how "it gets so sticky down here, better butter your cue finger up" was them explaining what it was like in New Orleans at the time, and the part about "Nothing is dead down here, it's just a little tired" was a reference to the hot summers of New Orleans.

It's clearly about voodoo and the experience of recording in New Orleans.

From my recollection, the Trag were in a taxi cab somewhere and were eating chicken. The Taxi driver had mentioned to them to "eat that chicken slow as its full of them little bones". It was an interview or something where I had heard this.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with a child, that died during birth, Or a miscarriage. Or even just a young child that died early. "Nothins' dead down here, Just a little tired" in denial of what happened, Drinking himself away "Buck in a half for a beer", A child would also have "little bones". The music video if you watch could also suggest to this heavily.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
