    This song is about the loneliness and pain you feel after a breakup.
    In the first verse he is searching for meaning: "if I'd skim the stone, walk a different way back home, it would all make sense"
    The chorus is describing the endlessness of the depression: "and every time I ever get a hold it seems to break" - you can't get of the a depression, and a lot of depressed people fell like every time they get better, it breaks and they are back to scratch.
    The 2. verse he tries to cope with the breakup, not knowing if to call her, drink the pain away, say to his friends that she was wrong, or pretend like it doesn't hurt.
