Tool: 4 Degrees Meaning
4 Degrees Lyrics

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:I may have tried my hand before but will try again. I acknowledge the possibility of a dual meaning because they have done it well in other songs. I would like to focus on this meaning:
Get Up (Wake up and get off you azz, this is life you're wasting)(Stand attention)
Free yourself from yourself (You are only imprisioned and enslaved because you allow it by becoming apathetic and accepting the system . . deafeated. Because we allow it, it is itself self inflicted enslavement, and you have the ability and potential to change it)
Because locked up inside you like the calm beneath castles lies a cavern of treasure (limitless potential) and no one has been to it because it has been suppressed. You are programed to desmiss it and follow the status quo. We believe that we are ordinary and powerless.
Let's go f-ing digging ! ! !
Let's unlock all of this buried potential.
Bring that Sh-t out to take you back in. (Bring that power out in the open, don't allow anyone, yourself included, to ebb that flow)
You do what you like to do (selfserving, indulgent, numbing, distracted, gluttonous)
Lay back, relax . . Listen to me and let me show you another way. It's going to take time, but just hear me out.
I'll kill what you want me too. I'll tear apart all your misconceptions and programed beliefs and take what's left and slam it. That's how well I know another way and can show you. Fact, common sense and reason. I'll dice up any objections with a mental weave that with make your head spin, but will also make you believe what I say.
Whether you take it all (believe me) or don't, either way life is just too f-ing short to push away all I had to say. You have to acknowledge at least most of it, because it's indisputable fact, come on . . Take it in.
Take it all, come on take it. (take all my information in for what it is . . The truth)
All the way in
Let it go - (let your preconceptions and beliefs go)
Let it go in (Let what I have to say, the reality of it into an open mind)
You won't feel what you would like to feel. What I have to say is different, it's hard to believe or understand . . It's scary how we have let this happen.
Lay back and let me show your another way that humanity can exist.
I'll kill what you want me too. I'll tear apart all your misconceptions and programed beliefs and take what's left and eat it. That's how well I know another way and can show you. Fact, common sense and reason.
Whether you take it all (believe me) or don't, either way life is just too f-ing short to push away all I had to say.
Knock me down and I'll just come back running. I am so enraged and sure of my self, that you can't win this discussion which is why I wanted you to lay back and relax in the first place. Don't bother resisting.
This song is a brilliant urging for us to unlock our potential as a species and they do well to show thier deep frustration with us mingled with an almost taunting of us. Come on, let's go digging. We have no idea. Wake Up -
This song is obviously about taking a massive dump. He has to poop. The poop will be four degrees warmer than his body heat because he ate a hot beef and bean burrito with habanero hot sauce that made his poop hot and spicy. The poop will slide out so slippery and wet, then splash into the water below. He'll paint the bowl brown with his spicy hot poop. He wants you to lay back and let him show you another way to poop other than in the pot- on your chest. You won't feel what you want to feel, and you want to feel it, because it's so warm. It will be four degrees warmer than your body when it splashes on your chest.

i think its about conception,
1.-"It brings us closer than Dying and cancer and crying"
2.-the mixing of our chromosomes "Kill what you want to Take what's left and eat it"
3.-perhaps the ejaculation is that warm or its the temperature produced by cells as they mutate to an embryo"4 degrees warmer
Give in now"
4.-we become one on to this world "This brings us out"

It's about butt fucking.

I think this song is about hairless sphynx cats, which Maynard owns, they are four degrees warmer than other cats. Saying the song is about anal sex when it's really about cats sounds like the hilarious misinformation tool likes to promote.
-
I believe this song is about learning about magic fro. A sacred source in which the four elements of nature are manipulated through the act of a animal sacrifice and the shedding of a holy regiment of daily sinlessness in order to obtain magical powers and be able to build a floating castle in the sky.

The anus is 4 degrees warmer than a vagina. I think it was Danny Carey that provided the info. They were recording late one night and one of them read the factoid and they ran with it.

I think, if the song is about sodomy, Maynard was trying to get the Army off of his back. Sodomy, even consentual, is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison and dishonorable discharge. The army would never take someone they think is a butt fuhqer. The song may also be (almost certainly is) about the four degrees of consciousness. The fourth and highest degree is Aum or Om. Aum is a state of consciousness that is beyond consciousness. To acheive this level of consciousness is to be free from ones self.
The human brain functions by transmitting and receiving signals(brainwaves). Brainwaves are electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves can pass through matter in any state. It is absolutely possible that MJK is referring to his attempt to transmit an electromagnetic signal from his brain on to someone elses.
Then again he seriously could have been trying to convince the army that he is a butt fuhqer. Desertion is punishable by death so it is possible that he was looking for a way out that wouldn't involve him being shot. -
The correct interpretation as proven by science ???
The song is about how music played in the A= 444 hz scale is empowering to mankind and yes this song was created using instruments tuned to this scale. The powers that be (rockefeller) changed the standard tuning to a= 440 hz sometime in the 20-30's era stealing something that is very empowering spiritually from all of us.
suggested search terms: cymatics, hans jenny, solfeggio tones, dr emoto water
If you want to play around on a guitar or synth with the tunings get an adjustable tuner android app or apple app etc. set the tuning to a = 444 and then tune. play also try 432 scale
be blessed in the name of yeshua -
I am pretty sure like a lot of tools songs its about finding the true potential your mind and body can unleash with the metaphor being anal sex because most wont try it or accept it most wont accept our minds can be much more than we could ever realize
-
I think its about investigating (anything) for yourself because you might like what you find. People are afraid because of preconceived notions, taboo, or stigma attached. Look, listen, and observe for yourself and take what you want and leave the rest. Definite metaphor there though like all there songs.
-
If you have an idea of how Maynard thinks, you wouldn't even doubt that this song is about persuading someone to participate in the act of anal sex. That's just what Maynard does, and that's what we fucking love him for.
Now that that is said, read the interpretations above, sit back and pick your favorite, or create your own. Music doesn't have to mean the same for you as it does for me.
Make your own versions, and take what you need and leave the rest.
But anal sex. Think about it, read the lyrics and realize that it matches.
Anal sex. -
I believe in the whole multiple meanings likewise. I also believe that Tool songs are open for everyone to have their own personal opinion and meaning. Like this song for instance. I had imagined a few things. The first one was like a therapist or a psychologist trying to dig deeper into someones thoughts and to show them things that they have suppressed in their subconscious. The other (and most common i have seen) is the whole anal sex thing. Like a person trying to get their partner to try anal sex and refusing to take no as an answer. My final interpretation is stand up for yourself and question the things that you were raised to believe in.
