Veterans. Battle hungry veterans that long for being in the familiar territory of what they k is and feel recognized for. It is sad, but powerful. Just my take on it. Amazing song!!

To me this song is an homage to the aging male ego. Could apply to female as well, though "weapon out, belly in" is pretty male if you ask me. As we age, it's hard to settle into whatever new reality we live in, often trying to remain an older version of our younger selves which can leave us struggling to remain relevant, consequential, etc. Invincible makes me picture a beer belly at a bar by himself telling stories to anyone who will listen about the shit he used to do. Lurching into the fray, longing for another win, beating tired bones all in an effort to reclaim the thrill of being young and feeling like you are winning. Or at least that you may win tomorrow. Now old, it's easier to lean on the exaggerated mythology of your own youth than it is to accept that your most effective "warrior" days are behind you. Armour wearing thin. But you can't fight it forever, age is an unavoidable truth that trying to deny will only lead to misery and emotional collapse. Heavy shield down.

Caligula is Gaius Julius Caesar's nickname from his youth. This song uses his narrative in a way to draw similarities metaphorically to any battle worn soul.
