No Quarter Lyrics

Lock all the doors, and kill the lights.
No one's coming home tonight.
The sun beats down and don't you know?
All our lives are growing cold, oh...
They bring news that must get through.
To build a dream for me and you, oh.

Locked in a...

A war about martyrs and their enimies no matter how much that person wants to have love for the damsel in distress the individual knows that he must put the task first before emotion.

To me this is a song that possibly talks about losing some kind of hope the older we get & as a child we have all these dreams but reality gets to everybody at a time and the world makes us feel a sense of imprisonment in our minds because its nothing like it was thought about

The song is about the lord of the rings the line close the door kill the lights is about the part where frodo and sam leave bag end to go to the prancing pony. The line they bring news that must get through is about Frodo caring the ring to mount doom. The line the devil marks there every step refers to golum fallowing Frodo and Sam. the line he sun still shines even though the depressed person is feels even more isolated is about when sam and frod see a single hole in the clouds that shines through and shines on frodo. finally the line the pain is still there even after its all over. is about frodos pain he feels internally after he destroys the ring for years after.

I believe this song is about showing no mercy or forgiveness and pretty much losing the rest of yourself in the depression that would follow.

The original was by Led Zeppelin, and is about the US post office (through sleet and snow...)getting a love message through to the lover...

My great grandmother died the other day and when I listened to this song I thought of her. I know its probably not a song about somebody dieing but in a sense it could be.

Lock all the doors, and kill the lights.
    No one's coming home tonight.
When some people are deeply saddened they just want isolate themselves in a dark room and think for a while.

The sun beats down and don't you know?
All our lives are growing cold, oh...
The sun still shines even though the depressed person is feels even more isolated.

They bring news that must get through.
To build a dream for me and you, oh.
The person tries to hide from the news but cant. they have to accept it and move on.

Locked in a place where no one goes.
The depressed person feels like they are stuck in a place alone.

    They ask no quarter
    They have no quarter.
The person asks for the pain to stop but it doesnt.

    It's getting colder (7x)
at first its quiet and the person feels saddened, then it starts getting louder and the person feels rage and anger.

They bring news that must get through.
Dying peace in me and you
The person finally accepts the news but feels like they are dead as well.

    We have no quarter
    We have no quarter
    We ask no quarter.
The pain is still there even after its all over.

Just my two cents. I know its a zepplin song and Tool just covered it, but this is how I interpret Tool's version.
