Drops of Jupiter Lyrics

Now that she's back in the atmosphere

With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey

She acts like summer and walks like rain

Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey

Since the return from her stay on the moon

She listens like spring...

Like some have said, I know this song is about Pat having a dream, awakening, and writing this song. It is about his mother, and how he believes that though she died, she is truly still in the atmosphere. He has said, though, that the song could also be interpretd as a love song.

the song was about his mother, but i see it in such a different way. i see a girl wanting more and wanting to get away and all he wants is her. she talks about her dreams and goes on to expirence all these things but realizes in the end that all that was worth it was him.

I know this is boring but this song is closure for Pat's mom dying and he's wondering about the other side.

Yes it is meant for his beloved mother.
But i think songs can be interpreted anyway you want it to be, that's why they are special. Ultimately it's a memorial to his mom, but the other interpretations are suitable for this song for everyday life. Either way the lyrics+music+and his voice=a golden song.

This may sound crazy, But even though Patrick Monahan wrote this for his passed away mother, I think this also spontaneously talks about the "Plan of salvation" that Mormons believe.

"Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair,"
She's resurrected/alive again because she's back in the "atmosphere"; the drops of Jupiter probably symbolize something that makes our bodies eternal/unique (it's a Mormon thing, You don't have to believe it.)
"Reminds me that there's a time to change"
Means that he still needs to complete his life, "change" his personality since he still has time. All the other stuff like "talking like June" or "walk like rain",etc probably represents all the new wonderful unique characteristic from resurrection.

"But tell me, did you sail across the sun?...heaven is overrated?...did Venus blow your mind?"
the main question Pat is asking here is "is she in spirit paradise or prison while she dead?" . (I know the answer, but its too religious to give out)
Sailing across the sun and experiencing Venus would mean that she's in spirit paradise since she gets to do this impossible amazing stuff; heaven overrated shows that she's in the spirit prison (its not painful in the Mormon belief, its just a very questionable and confusing place that people end up in.)she's pretty much in that "Soul Vacation".

"I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man
Who was too afraid to fly so he never did land" I think this means that he's too afraid to die because she thinks that he may not be resurrected "never did land" because he has not changed yet.

"Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong?
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance
    Five-hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?"

The bridge of the song is simple. He's questioning her about anything that she misses while on her "soul vacation"

Most of this might not be accurate but its very close to what I believe. I'm sure the rest can be self-explanatory.

I looove this song but actually, the band was talking about this song on a music count down show and the lead singer talked about how they were told to change the lyrics such as "best soy latte you ever had" because they're actually talking about making love in this song..."DROPS of Jupiter"?? Come on guys...

I think the lyrics "Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance Five-hour phone conversation The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?" prove even more so that it's about his mother and not a love song, because that list is all little things someone would love about living. So, he's saying "Do you miss me too. I'm part of you being alive too."

You all are all wrong. Train stated that the song's about the lead singer losing his mother. He's coming to terms with his mother dying. He finds comfort imagining her spirit on a journey, but now "she's back in the atmosphere" He literally means "Did you find out Heaven was overrated?"

this song is about P. Monahan mother that passed away. however, that would mean that It's about someone that you loved.

I guess the only way I can tell if this is a love song is by "Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance Five-hour phone conversation The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?"; the big question from these lyrics is Do miss all this stuff and me?

It's about his mom. He says "heaven is overrated." he knows she'd rather be among the stars.

I believe this song is about a couple who had a break and The Female went off Travelling. It sounds like while she was away she did alot of soul searching. The Guy is wondering if there is still room in her life for him.

So what do you guy's think? :)
