Trivium: In Waves Meaning
Song Released: 2011
In Waves Lyrics
(In waves, In waves)
DO I take everybody else down (Every
body else down) Everybody else down
with me
I know that death approaches fast (In
waves, In waves)
What's the purpose if this life won't
last...

They must have had a time machine because I think this perfectly sums up 2020's pandemic.
“Do I end this all for the world for to see? Do I take everyone down with me?”
In other words: Do I quarantine myself with covid, adversely affecting my mental health, and just become another statistic on the infection counter or even the death toll?
Should I break quarantine, and spread covid? Effectively infecting everyone around me.
Or perhaps another interpretation may even be should I wear a mask in public, or be a dirty mask denier? -
I think it’s about suicide;
“Do I end this all for the world for to see? Do I take everyone down with me” - When somebody kills themselves, the people who loved them tend to fall into the same general issues due to grief
“In waves” - most people with depression (mainly but can be other mh issues) describe the feeling as coming “in waves”
“What’s the purpose if this life won’t last?” - The feeling of helplessness, having no place in the world and feeling useless
Idk that’s my view and what I thought initially when I first heard the song, but I know Matt usually leaves song meanings ambiguous so that people can have their own interpretations -
I believ this song is bout dying ( I know that death approaches fast )life and time seems to go by faster also not just for us humans but animals as well , ( in waves , in waves ) but that's just my opinion .

It's about life & death - 'I know that death approaches fast'. It's about how life brings with it death, and that it is the case for not just everyone (humans), but for the entire universe. Death also happens in waves - 'In waves, in waves...' Which can be interpreted in many different ways. 'Waves' as in sequences of life - birth, adolescence, adulthood, old age and ultimately death ( - which we cannot deny the song is about). Or maybe even 'waves' as in reincarnation, I mean as featured in the song - 'What's the purpose if this life won't last (what's the purpose)' - so maybe the 'in waves' could represent rebirth? But I believe the likelihood of 'waves' is to represent how we all die and it's done in almost a sea of waves (it happens a lot).
If trivium are singing the question of 'What's the purpose if this life won't last (what's the purpose)' then maybe they may have some doubt or belief of a religious aspect towards life and death. Regarding the band members religions, I don't know what they personally feel towards spirituality.
But yeah, you guys stay openminded and just build you're own interpretations of this song very, very cool song. You can't be wrong - just as long as you can back you're own opinions up.
