U2: Elevation Meaning
Elevation Lyrics
You shoot me from a gun
I need you to elevate me here
A corner of your lips
Is the orbit of your hips
Eclipse
You elevate my soul
I've got no self control
Been living like a mole now
Going down,...

Isn't the narrator undoubtedly double-stricken by cancer curse, facing a lookalike of himself who is actually an angel diguised as a human demon, and both ending in murder-suicide?
Suppose that the narrator has both melanoma and throat cancer, and he finds this condition so unbearable that he would interrupt his treatment. While he is fixing a night star in the sky, another person interrupts him. The gender of the other person may not be known, being a human demon, but the narrator recognizes the other as an exact lookalike of himself. So, the lookalike sparks up a cigar and hands it to the narrator despite his illness, and plays guitar to him before he dies, but at the narrator's request, the demon has to explain him why cancer has taken all control.
But the narrator notices a gun at the demon's belt, meaning the latter has come to stop the former from suffering. Attracted by the demon, he completely believes the lookalike's words, but there is no mention whether the other tells him something true about the enduring illness, and both end up in murder-suicide. After their burials, both the narrator and the demon's souls dig up the earth and end up in the sky and the demon, who was actually an angel in disguise, teaches him how to fly.
The most remarkable parts of the video are those with The Edge and Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie). It actually shows both angel and demon versions of the foursome. -

Obvs had a good melody and just gave up when it came to the lyrics. Blah blah Blah, get to the elevation bit Bono. Ok, how about excavation? Then I can put in stuff about a mole, in a hole. No wait, that makes me sound like I'm 5 years old.
Doesn't matter the tombraider contract says it's due in tomorrow, let's just release it. -
In the liner notes, it shows a guy and girl silhouette (designed akin to bathroom silhouettes) holding hands and two arrows, one above each head, going up. I think it's about how a guy and girl can help inspire each other to be better people in life through dedication and love. If you want it to be about sex, it can be because...anything can be about sex.
-
I believe it is about dying and going to a higher plain such as heaven.
-
I think this has nothing to do with sex...I believe it has to do with a spiritual elevation & not a sexual one.
-
Also Elevation has an important part on the Roman Catholic vs Anglican Church history (both religions which Bono is related to)... Elevation was the moment that the eucharisty is presented after consacrated... the moment where the spirit and flesh were one...
-
Oh my God these are terrible interpretations. In the Jewish Religion, 'Elevation' is a concept that has to do with a spiritual high. "I and I in the sky" means his physical is meeting his spiritual "in the sky". "You make me feel like I can fly" refers to the feeling he receives from God. The rest is metaphor
-
This song was used in the movie Tomb Raider, which is why the video has Laura Croft (Angelina Jolie) in it and why it has such an action film vibe to it.
I think the song is most certainly sexual, but it does contain a possible spiritual interpretation like nearly every U2 song. Perhaps his point is that BOTH kinds of love can elevate you. ;) -
I think this is a religious song to, If you seen the video notice the part, "Love lifts me out of this blues" Bono Looking at the sky, i think his looking to something, and if you notice the yellow taxi car i think someone saves him from being hit. I think Elevation means Salvation.
-
Well, I don't know what the lyrics mean, but in the video at the beginning Bono is on the phone and you hear 'This is the evil Bono. We have The Edge. You are surrounded.' Or something like that. The it gets all weird and there are a bunch of car explosions and robots and people freeze. It's all really confusing and I have no idea what all of that is about. But its an amazing song!!

Actually, someone was talking about this part of the lyrics not too long ago:
"A corner of your lips
Is the orbit of your hips
Eclipse
You elevate my soul"
and well I think it has to do with a special kiss. His hands are on the peak of her hip (her orbit), he's heading in for the kiss and closes his eyes, which would cause the eclipse. -
The lyrics are:
At the corner of your lips, as the orbit of your hips eclipse, you elevate my soul.
I can't think of any interpretation other than oral sex... -
ROFL, you guys are free to your own interpretation, but I doubt a semi-Christian band like U2 would be singing about that. XD
Personally I think it's has some religious meaning. Bono is talking about how Jesus takes him higher and stuff like that. A couple of the lyrics really don't fit in though, so I agree with the previous post that some parts don't really have much meaning. = -
Yeah, I agree with the first entry
I couldn't really think of much else he would mean with "I need you to elevate me here" or "The goal is elevation" haha
