In A Little While Lyrics

In a little while
Surely you'll be mine
In a little while I'll be there

In a little while
This hurt will hurt no more
I'll be home, love

When the night takes a deep breath
And the daylight has no end
If I crawl, if I come crawling...

To me is sounds like an older guy who is in love with a very young girl, one that he has known since she was just a baby. She's too young so he's saying a little while they can be together. So he's maybe in his 50's now and she's in her 20's, she is old enough now for them to get it on. She turns him on.

Well, I remember being in a bus on my way to the love of my life.
We had distance relationship. I remember waiting for this day to come. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t think of anything else but the moment we meet. I was shaking.
It was deep dark night. Frosty winter. And the only thing that kept me warm was the thought: in a little while surely you’ll be mine, in a little while I’ll be there. In a little while this hurt will hurt no more. I’ll be home, love.

Life goes on, we’re not together anymore, but still this particular song brings tears to my eyes. Still miss that wonderful feeling.

Bono has said that the song is about a hangover, but I think it is clearly also a love song -- it seems to be addressed to "that girl" with "Spanish eyes" who makes his heart skip a beat: "Slow down my beating heart; slowly, slowly love." Maybe it was written for Bono's bride, Alison.

This song was written about a hangover simply, until Bono sang it to Joey Ramone on his death bed, and in Bono's own words, the song took on a 'spitritual' meaning.
