Vertigo Lyrics

Unos, dos, tres, catorce

Turn it up loud, captain!

Lights go down, it's dark
The jungle is your head
Can't rule your heart
A feeling is so much stronger
Than a thought
Your eyes are wide
And though your soul
it can't be bought
your...

This song is about the people of the worlds religions all ending up in the same place after death (vertigo rather than heaven or nirvana).

The part in brackets (donde esta?), I think is being coy.

Listen closely and you may just hear "Bogota!"

This is poignant if you read the rest of the lyrics including jungles, bullets ripping up the sky, and the girl with jesus round her neck.

Bogota is the place that was the centre of controversy a couple of years back in Columbia. A few alleged IRA members were caught training with dissidents also selling/buying arms, and were jailed. There were numerous calls for their extradition, but the story went a bit cold. Haven't heard anything since.

Just listen for it. I'm pretty sure they don't say "donde esta?"

In addition to being their 14th album, Steve Lillywhite was again brought in to produce the album after a 20 year plus absence. Lillywhite produced U2's first 3 albums and their most recent album, the band's 14th. Hence, 1, 2, 3, 14.

This isn't really an interpretation, but thank you anonymous, that song doesn't bother me anymore.

    1,2,3,.....14
The 14 represents the 14 albums the band have recorded

I really don't know much about this song, including the lyrics, but I do know the beginning and it does bother me. "Uno, Dos, Tres, Catorce" means "1, 2 ,3, 14" where the hell did this guy learn Spanish? I've never even had one spanish lesson (unless you count 6 years in south Florida as a Spanish lesson, LOL!) and I know this. If anyone knows why he did this, please tell me.
