XTC: Dear God Meaning
Song Released: 1987
Dear God Lyrics
I pray you can make it better down here
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving on their feet
'Cause they don't get enough to...

This song has an obvious yet very strong meaning. While listening to this song I personally felt a change. This song is very powerful to me because it is someone having the courage to question what they were brought up to believe. I'm sure this song can be found offensive but I think it's fair game. All the points it makes are totally valid. There were two parts in this song that really spoke to me. First when it says: "Did you make man kind after we made you?" This really makes look deeper into certain things you may have been taught. The other part is: "Dear God, don't know if you noticed but your name is on a lot of quotes in this book us crazy humans wrote it you should take a look" This part really stands out to me. This song shows a whole new perspective on religion; It challenges things some may not have the courage to look twice at. I personally believe questioning the teachings of life and religion can be a truly eye opening experience.
