Alice In Chains: Down in a Hole Meaning
Song Released: 1993
Down in a Hole Lyrics
I give this part of me for you
Sand rains down and here I sit
Holding rare flowers
In a tomb...in bloom
Down in a hole and I don't know if I can be saved
See my heart I decorate it like a grave
You don't...

The lyrics to this song were not written by lane. So who knows , I'd guess drug addiction.
-
referring to substance abuse. stuck, trapped, feeling as though there is no way to get out, no way to stop. The common misconception though is that all the pain was always directed from Layne, when in reality it was the band itself. The difference is that Layne had gotten to the point where The drug had taken control of him, instead of him controlling the drug.

I believe it is about lane's addiction to heroin. as any addict knows, you feel trapped, like you've dug yourself into a hole and every time you use you are digging yourself deeper. I think this song is expressing how hopeless he felt as an addict.
