Alice In Chains: Heaven Beside You Meaning
Song Released: 1996
Heaven Beside You Lyrics
See what you came to see
Been what you wanna be
I don't like what I see
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you... Hell within
Like the coldest winter chill
Heaven beside you... Hell within
Like the coldest winter...

Having everything you have ever wanted but still not feeling satisfied with living. At this point you realize that it must mean you never WILL be able to be truely happy, and just knowing that is Hell.
-
Hypocrisy!(plain and simple)
-
You've suffered. Greatly. Everything you could ever want is right next to you, but you can't reach out and get it...destroying yourself will always come easier.

NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT DRUGS!
Also, his name was LAYNE, not Lane -
I don't think it's a song about drugs. It surely can't be about Layne's death, because he was singing in it. Jerry Cantrell said he wrote it after breaking up with his girlfriend of seven years. He was unable to remain faithful, although he loved her even after they broke up. His exact words to this song are the following: "Another attempt to reconcile the fact that my life and paths are tearing me apart from the person I love. All the things I write about her are a way for me to maybe speak to her, express things I could never express."

"Jesus Christ" the effing song is about herion addiction!!

Be truthful to yourself. Don't conform to what people want you to be. Find your fit and ride it to the end!

I don't know why but whenever I hear this song I think of cartoons/movies when a person is faced with a tough decision and an angel and a demon appear on their shoulders and try to influence their choice. This may not be what the song is actually about, but it's what the song reminds me of.

I think Heaven Beside You is pretty much straightforward: if you don't like me, (talking to girlfriend or someone) just leave. Be honest and get to the point. That's my bad point of View.
