Alter Bridge: Metalingus Meaning
Metalingus Lyrics
Dropped to my knees when hope ran out
The time has come to change my ways
On this day I see clearly everything has come to life
bitter place and a broken dream
And we'll leave it all, leave it all...

#2 top rated interpretation:It is about a person who has been defeated, has bumped into several problems that took his freedom away. Now, he/she has another opportunity to life. Just go forward and don't look back. Be alive again.
like for example, me. I identify with this song, because I was in a relationship that took my dignity away and I was brought down by even my "companion" in life when I lost my job. Made me feel like trash. I was in a deep drepression. I got divorced and now I can confront life with a new attitude. A new perspective. With freedom. -
I believe this is a song about a dream about trying to feel a way that you never thought was possible again. A chance to feel alive, and you just can't feel alive..and hes one step away from feeling that way but a second before he could feel alive it all comes crashing down and brings him down to his knees, and the next day everything comes alive.

I doubt that this has anything to do with religion and sinning, particularly because the lead singer is an agnostic
-
i think its about a man who has lived a sinful life finding god and wanting to redeem himself.
the chorus 'on this day i see clearly' shows that he has realised how he has behaved is wrong.
'could you set me free; is repeated twice towards the end showing that he wants to be forgiven and find a better place
i think a lot of alter bridge songs are similar to this, wayward one and white knuckles from the blackbird album espeacially
