Blackbird Lyrics

The willow it weeps today
A breeze from the distance is calling your name
Unfurl your black wings and wait
Across the horizon it's coming to sweep you away
It's coming to sweep you away

[Chorus:]
Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird fly...

The "blackbird" represents the soul of a lost one, who succumbed to the cruel reality of this world before they could see the light in life. This line speaks for itself: "Someday I too will fly and find you again"

This is a very beautiful song that mixes all the elements that the band is made of. All the member's of Alter Bridge have been quoted saying that this is the band favorite and the most fun to play live. The song itself speaks about a friend of Miles Kennedy who had passed away and basically captures both the feelings of sadness and loss with lines such as "The willow it weeps today" and "The static of this cruel world
Cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day." but then also displays the hope that his soul may find peace "Let the wind carry you home
    Blackbird fly away
May you never be broken again

    Beyond the suffering you've known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again."
All together it is one amazing piece of music.
