Arctic Monkeys: Cornerstone Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Cornerstone Lyrics
But it was only a look a like
She was nothing but a vision trick
Under the warning light
She was close, close enough to be your ghost
But my chances turned to toast
When I asked her if I could call her...

to me he's in love with some he shouldn't anymore. he goes around searching the places where she hangs out expecting to get a glimpse of her. when finally he finds her she realize she still needs him badly so altought "i'm not really supposed to, you can call me anything you like" . so probably they go home together and they are happy until reality comes knocking at the door.

I really like the interpretation of him losing someone as in death or in a tragedy and that sounds like a very good interpretation, but the way I understood it at first was that he liked or had strong feelings for someone who was with his bestfriend, brother, cousin, acquaintance, etc. and so when he rode with him he smelt her scent on the seat belt of his friend's or whatever's car so he drug out the ride so he could smell her scent longer. He figured since he couldn't have her because his friend or whatever (btw that's what I'm referring to him as if you didn't notice yet ;)) he would search for another girl that was just like her, but no matter how close they were they were not the same, and he wanted to get as close as possible to the one he wanted the most so he finally came upon her sister who was as close as he was going to get to the real thing. I find it kind of depressing, though, the way it ends, he never ends up with his girl just the one that's the closest. Although this is how I always thought of it, I now see the good points made by various other people of how his lover may have passed away and he found her sister who was just as taken by grief as him so she was desperate for love and settled with whatever she could get. Altogether a very sad and in a way humbling song, but I do like it because of it's rich meaning and poetic message and theme.

I think it is about loosing his girl in a car crash. thats why he takes the long way round because he doesn't want to drive past the crash site - smell her scent on the seat belt. just throwing that out there.
