Arctic Monkeys: Do Me a Favour Meaning
Do Me a Favour Lyrics
There was tears on the steering wheel dripping on the seat,
Several hours or several weeks,
I'd have the cheek to say they're equally as bleak!
It's the beginning of the end, the car went up the hill,
And...

Once more, Alex Turner presents us with a song that sounds quite upbeat and cheery until you read, or tune into the lyrics.
This record is one of the more "apparent" breakup songs on the "Favourite Worst Nightmare" album.
The song switches between 2 perspectives. One being the narrators perspective, and the other being the narrators partners perspective.
In 1st verse the singer talks about the reality of this situation settling in. The steering wheel being drenched with tears, as they solidify the breakup.
The narrator lost track of time, and cannot see any hope of things getting better as time passes. This makes him anxious, and irritated by the whole situation.
In the chorus the singer eggs his partner on, to get any kind of a reaction out of them, hoping that the reaction will give him a reason to leave his partner without looking back.
In the 3rd verse we get a glimpse of how the ending of this breakup came about.
The partner practically running away from him, shoes untied.
Furthermore, the song speaks of curiosity being a heavy load. The truth being potentially unbearable, coming to light as a result of being curious.
In the final chorus the narrator feels horrible about it all, and tries to soften the blow of the breakup by offering emotional support in the future.
The narrators partner sees through this manipulative suggestion, and tells him to stop flattering himself. To stop acting like he is in control, or in the right.
Finally, the narrator needs his partner to say something even more severe than "Fuck off", for him to entirely lose his feelings. For him to move on, and say goodbye.
