Ariana Grande: Thank U, Next Meaning
Song Released: 2018
Thank U, Next Lyrics
But he wasn't a match
Wrote some songs about Ricky
Now I listen and laugh
Even almost got married
And for Pete, I'm so thankful
Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm
'Cause he was an angel
One taught me...

This song is about Ariana moving on.
"Thought I'd end up with Sean
But he wasn't a match
Wrote some songs about Ricky
Now I listen and laugh
Even almost got married
And for Pete, I'm so thankful
Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm
'Cause he was an angel"
She loved these boyfriends, but none were the right match.
"One taught me love
One taught me patience
And one taught me pain
Now, I'm so amazing
Say I've loved and I've lost
But that's not what I see
So, look what I got
Look what you taught me
And for that, I say"
Every ex taught her something to make her who she is today.
"Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next
I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex
Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next (Next)
I'm so fuckin'—"

"Spend more time with my friends
I ain't worried 'bout nothin'

Only wanna do it once, real bad
Gon' make that shit last
God forbid something happens
Least this song is a smash (Song is a smash)"

I think Thank U, Next is about all her past relationships and what they have taught her.
And when she says "Cause look what I've found Ain't no need for searching" she's saying she found herself and she doesn't need to search for anyone because the only person she needs is herself.

This song is about girls burning through decent men like they are matches, trying to find that "Mr. Right" (a.k.a. her standards are way too high) and she will not settle for a man who she views as a lesser human being based on unreasonable demands due to feminist indoctrination. She will continue riding that CC with bad boys and dismiss actual good men 'till it's too late. This song translates to the common tale: Welcome to 40+ single life women, enjoy your cats.

What i think the meaning of this song is is that she was grateful for all of the guys she loved and that each of them tought her something but she needs a better match or more time.

So in my honest opinion, this song is pretty straight forward. To me this song is simply about Ariana's ex. bf, and how they made her her best self. However, I do think this song is a bit exaggerated, just for the fact how she seems like shes glad shes lost them, and yea, she did learn something, like how we do in all breakups, but I'm sure she wasn't as happy about it irl like how it came across in this song. Just know, I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! (Bacon eggs)
