Wouldn't It Be Nice Lyrics

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong

You know it's gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay...

I think this song is very cute. It really portrays the follies of youth and the rush people get when they think they are in "love". It's sweet in a way, though there are some interpretations that it is about sex based on the line "Then we wouldn't have to wait so long." The two think of one another as their own passionate utopia. They may desire to escape the real world and could be having problems with adults. This is indicated in the lines "In the kind of world where we belong". I suppose there are outsiders who think they are being dumb. Many people reach that point in their lives where they think marriage is the key to happiness. Only for a few it is, unfortunately.

I don't think it's about sex. They just want to be older so that they don't have to wait so long to be married. They just want to be together.

This song to me is about a young high school couple who just want to fast forward their lives together so they can finally do things as they wish. They want to be able to live together, get married, etc... and it seems as though the days don't go by fast enough for that to happen.

I've always interpreted this a being about an interracial couple, wishing to get married, but waiting for a world where they could "belong" and not be prejudiced against.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

A simple and beautiful song about young love and desire. Hearing it at 13 and hearing it at 60 it is a totally different lyric. Teenagers of that era would soon not have to wait so long as we who grew up in those years well know. Looking back on that song now is bittersweet. You remember the thrill of being in love for the first time when you hadn't been changed by the pressures of adult responsibility. The songs title applies to almost anything you want it to. We can all think of many things that would have been nice.

Special meaning for teenagers hoping to mature into young adults and having the ability to get married and spend all their days and life together.

This song is about dying and moving on to another place with the one you love. Wouldn't it be nice if we were older than we wouldn't have to wait so long...to go to heaven. In the kind of world that we belong...a different world or heaven.

It's literal interpretation is too obvious. If you re read the lyrics in the context of dying and spending eternity together, it takes on a completely different feel.

It is a song about waiting to be married and not giving in to temptation.

This song is about a 21 year old guy and a 15 year old girl who have inconviently fallen in love. It would be nice if they were older because they would finally live in "the kind of world where [they] belong." They don't belong in the world together because society frowns upon their relationship. The couple wishes and hopes and prays time will fast-forward so they can legally "hold eachother close the whole night through." The couple wants to be married because that would finally tie the knot and prove to everyone who doubted them that they will last forever.

I have never thought this song was about sex- at least not exclusively. This is about young lovers wanting longing to be wed. Though the first lyric mentioned above seems to be about physical desire, later lyrics tell you that it is more than that...""wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up in the mornin when the day is new, and after having spent the day together, hold each other close the whole night through..."
that is all about togetherness and not just sex.

I think its a simple love gesture to the partner...knowing full well that they are truly in love and that love has come young...they just wish to be together forever...wanting that marriage status as one...maybe they are kiddin themselves...or hews just wannin to impress her; I reckon he needs to back off a bit hs gettin a bit too obsessive! what do you think?

This song is about a couple wishing they were older so they could have sex. Back in those days, pre-marital sex was much more heavily frowned upon. "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older, then we wouldn't have to wait so long."
