Bubbles Lyrics

Well how's your view of things today?

got up young to fade away

The sinners sin but aren't aware

Our fables take us everywhere

I can't keep up with you

I can't keep up

I can't compete with history

We'll film it live but...

I take it that he’s in a relationship with a girl suffering with deep depression, anxiety and maybe paranoia. “So how’s your view on things today?” I think the “bubbles” are doubts or paranoid thoughts that the girl is having. By saying “you are creating all the bubbles at night” he’s saying that she’s the one overthinking things and reading too much into things. And him “trying to pop them all the time” is his way of saying that he’s doing his best to quash those negative thoughts. “We don’t need to trust a single word they say” I think is him saying that people will talk but let them, him and the girl know the truth and that’s all that matters. “There’s a girl…down by the river” I think is his way of saying that the girl is having suicidal thoughts. Perhaps over her past…”wash away your sins” and she thinks that ending it all is the answer to her problems. Or it could be a religious thing. She could be “down by the river” to “wash away” her sins by getting baptised in the river to repent for her sins. Either way a seemingly upbeat and happy song has a very deep/dark meaning.

Honestly I believe it's about him having a girlfriend with a mental illness and how he's chasing round trying to "pop" the bubbles and make sure she's ok.
