Big & Rich: The Eighth of November Meaning
The Eighth of November Lyrics
-
This song was, as Kris Kristopherson says in the preview for the song (depending on what version you listen to) about a battle in the Vietnam Conflict on 8 Nov 1965, wherein the the 173rd Airborne Brigade, on Operation Hump, Warzone D were ambushed by over 1200 Vietcong. 48 American soldiers were killed. The song itself is the story of Miles Harris (who served 25 years in the US Army), and also is the one who gave "Big Kenny" from Big and Rich, his top hat. He was a survivor of this battle, and a good friend of Kristopherson's and Big and Rich's. They wrote the song for him.
