Bon Jovi: Something for the Pain Meaning
Song Released: 1995
Something for the Pain Lyrics
But forever after ain't what it's all cracked up to be
Yeah, I had a taste, you were my fantasy
But I almost lost my faith when I hit reality
I don't need no guru to tell me what to do
When your feeling like...
-
It does have something about depression but i think he's inlove...he's talking to someone who could be the solution for his sadness:
"To get me through the night, make me feel all right
Something like you"
or it could just be about suicide, that death is the only thing that could make the pain stop:
"First to a place where I feel no pain
Be the pillow under my head
(Night is calling)
Cover me when I'm in your bed"
or still could be that he was escaping using drugs:
"Higher than I've ever been
Take me down and back again" -
To me, this song is about depression. The first line goes "happiness has been no friend to me. But forever after ain't what it's all cracked up to be." Meaning, people always dream of having a "happily ever after" relationship/life, but it doesn't always work out that way.
The chorus constantly repeats "Give me something for the pain, give me something for the blues." Which means wanting something to make the "pain" or the sadness go away. The next line, "Give me something for the pain when I feel I've been danglin' on a hangman's noose," refers to suicidal thoughts, and how much the person hates the thoughts and wants them to go away.
A few lines later, it goes, "I opened up my heart, but all I did was bleed." Meaning, he tried to love someone, or care about someone, but when he tries to, it only causes more pain/drama in life. Then comes the line "I don't need no lover just to get screwed, they don't make no bandage that's gonna cover my bruise." Which mostly speaks for itself.
Overall, this is a very upbeat song about being lonely, depressed, and wanting someone to be there for you and to help stop the pain, like the line "To get me through the night, make me feel alright, something like you."
