Bruce Springsteen: Bobby Jean Meaning
Bobby Jean Lyrics
She said there was nothing that I could have done
There was nothing nobody could say
Me and you we've known each other ever since we were sixteen

Any Bruce fan will know that this song is about Miami Steve leaving the band in the 1980s. Thankfully, he eventually came back. The song does sound like it is about a woman but I think he is comparing the sort of break up with his bandmate to a break up of a romantic relationship. It actually pretty sad and I think one of the better songs on the Born in the USA record.
