   This song has nothing to do with Bruce Springsteen 's first marriage to a model in the early 80's.
   It was on his 1973 Album 'Live From Asbuty Park.'
   I always related to the mental illness displayed in the lyrics regarding the object of his affection & ultimate rejection..
   The 70's - LSD, heroin, death of rock stars...
   A death teap...

   I think it's the story of his pursuit and his journey to end his marriage and end up with the singer in his band that he's with now. I think he loved her for a long time and I think he loved her throughout the time he was married to that model and I think he knew her before that and this was a song that he had written and his pursuit of her just my opinion love to all Marcia in Modesto

   She is still alive. The suicide was not death. He is talking to her now. Maybe she got married. Or is in some other way not available.

   A abnormal and unorthordox love song by Bruce Springsteen that has a diety caring old twist to it. Frum the underatted ''Greetings From Asbury Park'' album where Bruce exposed some of his feelings with a looked upon respected beliefs for the need to love this girl as his duty that loved him and waited for him before he had his turn to be the god[his dream to make a name for himself] and now he came back for her and he wants themselves, but mostly her to be saved out of their poor condition they have been in with pity and patience for each other. While he's also learning to ''beware of pity'' in order not to be dragged down or taken advantage by it's pitiful and sorrowful looking state that's holding to her humble pride and would rather commit ''spiritual suicide'' instead of asking for help to be saved and loved. If only she can actually speak to him now about love that would've been freely given to her for her to surrender in the love that she originally had for him frum when he was working to become someone. Who is now somebody and offering her a helping hand to save her ''from a life of one long emergency'' that feels she hasn't been appreciated enough and has become evenmore embedded in her righteous quiet humble pride that wants to be honored,respected and loved, but doesn't want to be saved, separating them evenmore in reality, while still staying connected somehow.
