Bruce Springsteen: The Promised Land Meaning
The Promised Land Lyrics
I pick up my money and head back into town
Driving cross the Waynesboro county line
I got the radio on and I'm just killing time
Working all day in my daddy's garage
Driving all night, chasing some...

a diehard springsteen fan since mid 70's. to me the feel of this song is about getting something back that was lost from our past, not thru revenge in some violent form, only in deep, deep faith in love and sacrifice that is bigger than ourselves born to run album was inspired in faith, love and hope even to death in order to be saved and to save. in the darkness album where you are facing some of the demons from the past in battle to grow up to be a man. in this song the promised land he is the average working young man that happens to work in his fathers rage and on his time off he races sometimes for money and dreaming of a promised land that he heard of that is a mirage now with the girl in mind to find it somehow. the dogs on main str. howl might represent the old cannanite gods, or some of the demons that some of them became in the new testament that understand what was lost and what the character wants, but not necceserly the old promise land, but a promised land that comes through willing the power of faith in love and prayer to overcome the obsticles that get in our way in the dark cloud of the storm.
