Calum Scott: Dancing On My Own Meaning
Song Released: 2016
Dancing On My Own Lyrics
Does she love you better than I can?
And there's a big black sky over my town
I know where you're at, I bet she's around
And yeah, I know it's stupid
But I just gotta see it for myself
I'm in the...

#1 top rated interpretation:Calum Scott came out a little while ago saying that “this is how he came out telling the world he’s gay”. No need to hate on him everyone is different I’m their own way

#2 top rated interpretation:“I purposely didn’t change the pronouns in Dancing On My Own, so that it was from a gay man’s perspective."

#3 top rated interpretation:At one point I wondered if perhaps he had passed away and at his funeral saw friends and family sharing their sympathies and was wondering why they couldn't see him. Of course I agree with everyone's comments about whether he's gay or it's about his girlfriend becoming a lesbian is all irrelevant.
I think everyone should let their soul interpret the song in the way they hear it. I just lost two brothers, a sister and a mother in the last five years and perhaps that's why the funeral is on my mind. God bless you all! -
To me this song is about a guy that just broke up with someone and he’s seeing them with someone else and he just came to say goodbye to them I can relate because exactly 2 months ago my boyfriend broke up with me in the hallways at school. My friend told me that he now has a new girlfriend that don’t even talk or sit beside in class I heard that from another friend. So it hurts for me to see him in Math class since he moved on so quickly.

Well I think it’s by Robyn saying that her boyfriend is technically cheating on her but Calum just sings the song. I really love this song after I broke up with my bf, it just connects.
So great job Robyn and Calum!!! -
i thot it was about someone who died and he came back to say good bye and watching them kiss and knowing they were going home together he was saying good bye fir the last time...

I'm not the guy your taking home. He's in love with the man. Does she love you better than I can, taking about the man. He's gay and sad, nothing wrong with that....
-
I think he is gay. But the song is written by a girl. I still love the song and the singer though. ♥️

To Me, Dancing On My Own is About A Girl Whose Boyfriend Cheats On and She Is In A Club Dancing Alone While Her ex Boyfriend Dances With Another Girl.
-
I was in a very bad living situation with my ex bf. I was living at his parents house, not seeing my family or friends or doing anything i enjoyed. Not eating anything, doing drugs and basically just living for him and doing what he wanted me to and i felt trapped and like i couldn’t go home.
When i first heard this song i was high on mdma laying in bed by myself waiting for him to come home. The way i interpreted it was that the real me, the me i was supposed to be, was singing to both my bf and i. standing there waiting for me, watching me be with him and live for him. wondering why i wouldn’t just come back.
They were waiting for me in the back of my mind hurting, trying so hard to convince me to come back but failing.
At that moment it hit me, i knew what i had to do and the very next day i packed my things and left and my life has turned around for the better. if it wasn’t for this song i would’ve never realised that my life was supposed to be different. it saved my life. -
What you'll saying about he's sexuality, about the lyrics it is all written by a woman which is robyn (does she loves you better than i can) well obviously robyn which is a girl uses(she) because her boyfriend cheated
-
I always thought it was about a gay guy that goes to the club with his straight friend that he is secretly in love with and is sad because he's kissing a girl and doesn't notice his friend in that way.
-
I think the song is about breaking up with someone, and seeing them get together with a new one. I don't think people realise that it wasn't Calum Scott who wrote the song. The song is originally by Robyn, and she's a girl. I don't think it has anything to do with being gay.
-
Calum Scott did not write this song. It was co written and recorded by Robyn, a female singer. However, Calum Scott is in fact gay and when he sang it he purposely didn't change the lyrics so that it was from a gay man's perspective rather than a female's. He redid this song beautifully. Because of him it's one of my favorites.

To be in a room and dance alone while seeking the attention of that person. You came to say goodbye. Very beautiful song . To me...this is a song about a broken heart .

Ok, to this of you who have said there’s nothing gay or bi, he’s sparking from the woman’s POV, or he’s not the gay on his gf is.
Here it is in his own words in an interview in the Scottish Sun:
The singer has faced some serious challenges in his lifetime – from wrestling with his sexuality to having his heart broken.
Calum said: “When I was a young lad, I struggled to try and understand it myself.
“I trusted a couple of my friends at the time and I was abandoned for it so I always related talking about my sexuality as a barrier, and that I would lose friends, which is awful.
“Now I’m in that privileged position where I can write about my issues and how I felt, which is hopefully a nice way of connecting with other people and maybe to be that voice that they need. Not just specifically for sexuality, but for people who are scared of things in their life.
“I’ve tried to write in a way that transcends beyond just sexuality and is more about letting go of our fear and trusting the people around us.”
He added: “I purposely didn’t change the pronouns in Dancing On My Own, so that it was from a gay man’s perspective.
“It’s happened to me plenty of times where I’ve taken a fancy to a bloke and he’s turned out to be straight, because you just can’t tell sometimes. You can feel like you’re never going to find anybody
He is gay! It is 100% about a man singing about another man who is with a woman.
I mean, you can continue to debate if you want, but this is it in his own words. So further debate is pointless. -
its a girl writer and the guy she likes not only has a girl-freind but would rather hang out with a guy instead of her.Shes just mad because he wont ever see her dance and she is sexy but he doesnt see that so she keeps dancing sexy on her own.

Guys, this is a cover. The song was originally written by a woman. I don’t know about Calum Scott’s sexuality.
