Chameleon Circuit: Nightmares Meaning
Nightmares Lyrics
Hey old man, rest your head, you're breaking down inside.
Armour's cracked, set to collapse, damn you, don't you cry.
I've ended lives and...
-
But what about the Alliance from "The Pandorica Opens", where all of his worst enemies from all of time have banded together to trap the Doctor in the Pandorica? That's what I think that song is about.
-
This is one of my favorite songs of all time, let alone of Chameleon Circuit. It really captures the Tenth Doctor (the best one!) and his remorse, even more so than their other song, The Doctor is Dying.
-
The singer is impersonating the tenth doctor. Also at the beginning of the song you can hear a quote from 'The End of Time' (which is a tenth doctor era episode). So it would probably be about the tenth regeneration's self hatred and how at the end of his life he finally loses it.
Annotated Lyrics to 'Nightmares'-
(Spoken)
This is what we have seen, Doctor
The darkness heralds only one thing
The end of time itself
(Sung)
Hey, old man, rest your head
You're breaking down inside
Armor's cracked, set to collapse
Damn you, don't you cry
(Ten is clearly regretful of the events during the Time War. He can no longer pretend that he is a good man. He tries to forget, but can't.)
I've ended lives
I've ended worlds
I guess I've done it all
Fire and ice and rage inside
How long 'til I fall?
(The Doctor had killed the remaining Gallifreyans and many others while saving others. He destroyed his home planet. He feels much self hatred for his actions and wishes to regenerate or die.)
Somewhere all my darkest dreams are gathering
It's not enough to save the day
I can't escape my nightmares
(He knows many of his enemies and worst fears will bring him down eventually. The Doctor feels that saving others is not enough to makeup for what he did. He will never escape the effects of his choices.)
Dreams have shown me who I am
A danger to myself
Trickster feared, far from revered
So I must be, as well
(He knows what he has done is wrong and that he is not truly a good man. He believes he will be his own downfall. Some fear him and view him as threat. The Doctor begins to believe that he really is.)
Words and laughter wearing thin
Breaking this disguise
Where do angels fear to tread?
How can I think to hide?
(The Doctor can no longer pretend he has changed and moved on. He thinks of himself as like a monster. He thinks that things will improve if he disappears.)
Somewhere all my darkest dreams are gathering
It's not enough to save the day
I can't escape my nightmares
(He knows many of his enemies and worst fears will bring him down eventually. The Doctor feels that saving others is not enough to makeup for what he did. He will never escape the effects of his choices.)
Somewhere all my darkest dreams are gathering
It's not enough to save the day
I can't escape my nightmares
(He knows many of his enemies and worst fears will bring him down eventually. The Doctor feels that saving others is not enough to makeup for what he did. He will never escape the effects of his choices.) -
I think it is really epic I'm like the # 1 doctor who fan ever
-
I think it's about the Big Bang two and the pandorica. As well as Amy's Choice, the God Complex and all the episodes with the Silence. Especially the Big Bang two and the Silence. All the people who ever hated him put him in the Pandorica and a religious group that's main goal is to kill him.
-
I think this might be a collection of multiple episodes namely Amy's Choice, The god complex, The end of time part 1 and 2 and Trial of a time lord:The ultimate foe.
-
I think this song is either about the episode with the dream lord or the episode in the hotel with everyone's greatest fears...
