Chris Cornell: Can't Change Me Meaning
Song Released: 1999
Can't Change Me Lyrics
Have anything she pleases
The power to change everything that's wrong
What could she want with me,yeah
Wait just one minute here I can see that she's trying to read me
Suddenly I know
She's going to change...
-
I recently became a father and have always loved this song but after my daughter was born is when the true meaning of it came to me. Chris was a going to be a new dad around this time and having a daughter explains almost ever lyric. "She has the daylight at her command" Children have nothing to do but play during the day and can wake whenever they want. "She gives the nights there dreams" not only their own but your also. "She can uncover your darkest fears" having a child suddenly makes you aware of all the evil in the world things you didn't think about suddenly become your biggest fear. She can't change me reference is a nod to depression even though your child can bring fantastic joy and love into your heart it will still never change your feelings of being down or depressed because nothing can. But like all great songs the lyrics never are too straight forward so the listener can apply to their own life.
