City & Colour: Save Your Scissors Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Save Your Scissors Lyrics
And I will refrain
And I'll keep on running this neverending race
maybe next time will be the right time
and maybe next time will be your time
So save your scissors
For someone else's skin
My surface is so tough
I don't think...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:This is not my interpretation, Dallas explains what the song is about in one of his interviews.
The song is about how every time he gets a girlfriend, they try to change him into something he isn't. -
The whole point of interpretations isn't to look at the song from the artist's point of view. While yes, they clearly did write the song for a purpose with their own specific meanings behind the lyrics considering how they're feeling/experiencing at that point in time.
With that being said, I'm going to break away from the "Well, Dallas Green said this in this interview..." Etc. I'm going to switch it up and share what this song mea hms to ME.
To me, it sounds like there's someone that he cares about very deeply and would love to be with, but it never seems to be the right tine for them to be together. He keeps saying "maybe next time will be the right time. Maybe next time will be your time." Which makes me feel like maybe the person is with another person, but it's not who they want or feel like they're meant to be with. So he's saying that although they can't be together at that time, that the right time will present itself when it's ready and that for the time being they should move on. Perhaps he's scared to be with that person because he's scared of th e relationship failing and losing that person so he is with other people that he isn't as scared lose. And when he says whatever it is about not meaning for everyone to fall in love with him, he's saying that the people he's with because he's too afraid to be with who he really wants keep falling in love with them and then he feels guilty becaise he doesn't want to hurt anyone, but it's becoming harer to deny his real feelings.
Sorry it's all over the place. I don't have the time to explain each line. But that's what I'm going through right now, and have been for the last 5 years. So when I hear this song it makes reminds me of that situation. -
The line: "save your scissors for someone elses skin, my surface is so tough i dont think the blade will dig in" actually describes other peoples feelings and time as scossors, and how they wont have an effect on his skin (feelings, heart, it's a metaphor) because he's always on the move with his music.
-
i see it as being about accepting your life for how it is and not letting anyone else tell you your way of life is different. when he says "save your scissors for someone elses skin, my surface is so tough i dont think the blade will dig in" to me it means you should save your insults on my way of life for someone else because it doesnt bother me. what you think of me doesnt matter, only what i think of myself does.

I think maybe it's about cutting your self and how he (dallas green) doesn't want a girl or anygirl to cut her self because she loves him to much.
-
I agree with the fact that he doesn't want to be famous and have girls fall for him. But it's also about a statement. "I am not here to follow trends and be like everyone else, I am myself, Dallas Green."
-
It's about dallas green not wanting to be famous. Not wanting girls to fall for him everywhere he goes. He just wants to sing because he likes to. I know it seems like a suicide song but that's not really it. I would copy and paste the lyric and show you exactly what he's talking about but I have better things to do :p
