Coldplay: Lovers in Japan Meaning
Song Released: 2008
Lovers in Japan Lyrics
LOVERS KEEP ON THE ROAD YOU´RE ON
RUNNERS, UNTIL THE RACE IS RUN
SOLDIERS, YOU´VE GOT TO SOLDIER ON
SOMETIMES EVEN THE RIGHT IS WRONG
THEY ARE TURNING MY HEAD OUT
TO SEE WHAT I´M ALL ABOUT
KEEPING MY HEAD DOWN
TO SEE...

#1 top rated interpretation:the song "lovers in japan" strikes me as relating to the japanese internment camps during world war 2.
even the right is wrong... that could mean how, from a strategic military standpoint, the us should have put the japanese in the camps, but it was morally wrong.
tonight maybe we're gonna run... some of the prisoners might try to escape... dreaming of the osaka sun would fit in with that.
they are turning my head out, to see what im all about...
the military interrogated them for information, to see if they were spies.
im keeping my head down, to see what it feels like now...
they're finally free, and just want to live a normal life, and not be made a spectacle of by the rest of the nation. -
There should be no exact imterpretation... music is meant to make a person think. Every person should react and take something different out of each piece. ITS UP TO YOU TO DECIDE!!!

Yes, for me the song is like, I think of a couple that is separated at that moment, for any reason, I don't know, maybe a fight...
If I put that song in a film, I would see her in the beginning, where she might sit on the windowboard and you can see her thinking...
Then you see him sitting in a car, thinking, driving...
then you see her realizing she needs to keep going and starts to remold her appartment and her face begins to express hope now...
parallel you see him, starting to get his life fixed in his own way, like organizing stuff and everything....(maybe he was in jail or did anything agressive to her or so) like, just after breaking up, where both were so sad, they start to realize that life goes on and they need to make the best out of it...
in general the song is just about hope to me, even things get difficult sometimes, there is a way out and new doors get opened....
Coldplay is just the most impressive band for me.... -
This song is confusing to me. Because it's almost like a song that says just hold on you and him will be together soon but then there's that other part where it's almost like just let him go it's ganna be okay "soliders you have to solider on" I see that as it's okay just fight through it, it's going to be okay. I'm not sure it's just hard to understand. I wanna know what coldplay was thinking when they wrote this.

Agree, see lost in translation and you'll understand.

Watch the film 'Lost In Translation'
In my opinion, the song reminds me of the film -
I think Coldplay cheer the people that live distant relations when one member is enrolled in the army or fighting some battles far from their lover with this song. "Sometimes even the right is wrong" show us the intention of the author to remind us this kind of situations should not exist but keeping the faith evolution will finish with this. "One day, we´re gonna get out". LOVERS KEEP ON THE ROAD YOU´RE ON

I think "Lovers in Japan" is simply about a couple getting through the toughest time no matter what the obstacle, that it may be bad right now but it'll get better eventually, to always look at the brighter side of things.
