Coldplay: Fix You Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Fix You Lyrics
Fix You
When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose...

#1 top rated interpretation:I've read through all of these interpretations, and I agree that all of them could be affiliated with this song. But there was one sentence (provided by DaneFil) that really struck me:
"Chris wanted Gwenyth to know that the one place she could go when she is broken down is home."
I think that, right there, sums it up. Not just for Gwyneth, but for everyone who listens to the song. I think that the song is about life itself, about going through it, about falling down, making mistakes, falling in love, losing that love, just about everything that could go wrong... but in the end, no matter what, "lights will guide you home", wherever that may be, and you will have someone to lean on. -

#2 top rated interpretation:i think the important aspect of the song is the word "try". The beauty of the love is that the person loves the person so much that their pain is theirs, however they know there is no way to fix that kind of hurt in your life. But the point of the song to me is that the person is not looking for a quick fix, they're offering themselves up for the other person, and there is no greater love then putting yourself in full force, without any limitations for someone else.

#3 top rated interpretation:I read in a magazine that Chris wrote this song for Gwyneth Paltrow after her father died. She came home from the hospital covered and drenched in tears, and he started crying and asked her, "what can I do for you? tell me how I can do" and she looked up at him, and said "just hold me... cause you're the only thing that can fix me right now"
And that was that - he wrote the song the next day. -
Hmm...
I have to beg to disagree. That's not the meaning of the song... Its very cryptic but if u know the TRUTH.
Even the words he used was based on a very powerful meaning.
You have to analyze the stanza and refrain. how they interact with each other.
This song is connected to 3 more songs in one of their albums.
Once u figure this out. U might have solved the mystery of who you are really. To those who cried about this song, when u KNOW the TRUTH, you will not only cry, you will collapse.
I give a hint...
STUCK IN REVERSE -
Although this song is years old, i haven’t listened to it for years until last Sunday when it was played at the end of the handmaids tale and i burst into tears. Since then I’ve played it again and again and it’s had a massive impact on my decision making.
To me this is about my unrequited love of 25 years
“ when you love someone and it goes to waste”
I invested everything on him and got nothing back
“When you’re too in love to let go”
I loved him completely I just couldn’t let go. I was scared.
“If you don’t try you will never know your worth”
This is the sentence that has had a massive impact. I have to be kind to myself and learn to love myself to appreciate my worth so I have let him go.
“ I will learn from my mistakes “
This will no doubt make me stronger for the future
“ I will try to fix you “
It’s going to be tough but I will fix myself
Brett if you are reading this, you will understand why I have had to let go.
We loved each other but in different ways and that made me very unhappy. I will always love you but I need you least in my life x
Thank you Coldplay x -
This song is all about an attemp for a soul healing process.A cry for help when knowing it's a dead end & checkmate for him. All he got are hope & faith that keep him moving. The more & harder he tries the worse the Situations come up to be. The only solution is "light (God or higher power of him) will guide you home (journey). And ignites your bones (will&spirit)".

I guess this song means that, no matter how broken and shattered you are, there's still this one person who will emplace and fix that broken pieces of yours. And that person is just yourserlf. Because in the line 'i promise you i will learn from my mistakes', it means that your broken pieces is because of the mistakes and wrong doings you've made. It's just that the person that can fix you is just you.
-
For me the song is not about a guy trying to fix the girls heart or her life. For me it's about a guy fixing his own self, his own life. It's about building your self again, to learn how to heal your self after how many fails you have experice, to learn how to love yourself. Because sometimes we have to learn how to priorities our self first, before we priorities others.

I thought it was for a death but the way hes doing his facial expressions tells me hes letting the girl know hes interestedin her, she has a broken heartbut hes letting her know wherever she's at he will always be there to comfort her

This song makes me think of when you like someone but you are unable, for whatever reason, to do anything about it. It's that helpless feeling when you want to tell someone how much you like them but they aren't single, live to far away ("when you love someone but it goes to waste") or are too good friends to risk it ("when you lose something that you can't replace")....
This song seems, to me, to be saying that you should just go for it ("if you never try, you'll never know").
Then the chorus that says "lights will guide you home, and ignite you're bones" seems to say that it'll all be ok in the end and that you will do what is right.... -
It reminds me of what my mother and our family were dealing with, with her Alzheimer's disease. Listen again, keeping in mind a life lived and then no memory of it.

Chris wrote this song for Gwyneth
When she came back from the hospital
When her father died and it eas heart

Its kinda like a list of the worst things that happen to us.
When you try your best but you don't succeed.
When you get what you want but not what you need. Probably means when you have so many things that give you only temporary joy and you're not TRULY happy because you want something money or anything can get you. Love maybe.
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep. Your worries are always in your head and you know when you wake up, they'll be waiting.
Stuck in reverse. When all the good things you worked so hard on is being destroyed effortlessly by life which can just do that at its own will.
When the tears come streaming down your face.
When you lose something you can't replace. Lost love one or relationship or anything with significant meaning to you.
When you love someone but it goes to waste. When you love someone but you can't tell them because it may ruin your friendship, already taken, doesn't love you back, or has died.
Could it be worse? What we ask ourselves when these things happen.
High up above or down below. Who ever you are.
When you're too in love to let it go/show. When you're too scared to take that chance at love because you look at the pain it may cause more than what it could make you.
But if you never tryyou'll never know...just what you're worth. And we are worth a lot ;)
Lights will guide you home. And ignite your bones and I will try to fix you. Hope is what this means to me. But this song has many interpretations, I have my own personal interpretation of this song and many other people do and this song is incredible because it can do this. -
I think this song can mean a lot of things but the very first time I heard it I viewed as a love song between myself and God. I really don't want it it to be anything else but that .
-
Also, adding onto that I think what the other guy did was leave the girl, because he says, " when you lose something you can't replace" and "when you love someone and it goes to waste." And also "when you get what you want but not what you need" these are some of the very first lyrics. How , would Gwyneth have wanted her father to die? Again, makes no sense. Some food for thought...
-
Ok, I've seen a lot about this song being about Gywneth Paltrow and her fathers death, but that just doesn't seem to add up, considering the lyrics. He says, "when you're too in love to let it go" and he also really emphasizes the words "let it go" in the song if you listen to it. Too in love? How would Gwyneth be in love with her father? I mean I guess one could look at it that way, but that just doesn't make sense to me. "But if you never try you'll never know/ just what you're worth" I think this song is talking about a girl who he is in love with, but that girl loved someone else. For some reason this girl was very distraught over something this other guy had done, like VERY distraught, and he was trying to "fix her". Maybe the "facts" don't add up with this interpretation, but the lyrics certainly do. He also says that if she doesn't try to let it go she won't ever know just what she's worth. I think he means that she won't know because he loves her so much that he could show her how much she's worth, but she can't let go if this other guy. But even though she doesn't love him back in that way, he still wanted to fix her so badly, she was so broken. Also, has anyone else noticed how in basically very single one of Coldplays songs there is a mentioned "you?" Like in so many if them! It really seems like there is one person that Chris, or whoever else writes the songs, is repetitively speaking to. Isn't it said that it is best to write what you know? Also their songs all seem to connect together in a way. Coldplay is very interesting, and their music and lyrics are so unique!

this song is amazing. I believe its about seeing someone that you love, hurting. & you want to do everything possible to make that person. that you are able to fight through every situation life throws at you.
