Coldplay: Politik Meaning
Politik Lyrics
Everyone must find a place
Give me time and give me space
Give me real, don't give me fake
Give me strength, reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Give me time give us a kiss
Tell me your own...

#1 top rated interpretation:I've seen many people say that this song is based on trade and world politics. While that might be the case, when I heard this song it touched a personal base with me.
To me, this song is about finding oneself. It's about a person who has been searching for some meaning and has hit a brick wall.
"Everyone must find their place..."
So the person asks for what he has been trying to find
"Give me time and give me space,
Give me real don't give me fake,
Give me strength and self control,
Give me heart and give me soul..."
At the chorus its as though another person is singing the song. At this point the lines read " Open up your eyes..." multiple times...telling the lost person that he needs to look beyond what he "thinks" he sees and really look hard at what he wants.
The person searching for something asks the person who tells him to "open up his eyes" to "Tell me your own politik" so that maybe, just maybe he can find or make his own politik (politik seems to be the meaning of life that someone holds)
In the end, what the person really is looking for is love....plain and simple love....something that although seems simple enough is hard to achieve in life. -

#2 top rated interpretation:This song to me is a prayer. Chris makes it sound like he is talking to God he is asking him to open up his eyes and giving him love so he can see the beauty of his life and the word.

I think this is possibly the best song written by Coldplay. I feel it is about a guy telling the girl he loves to be honest and cut through all the lip service, bullshit politik and say what you really feel. The most beautiful chords I have ever heard on a piano come out of the chaos and noise, and lift the song, listener, and message into the light. The noise and chaos fade away and we hear this incredibly beautiful piano playing and Chris telling his love to "give me love over this" He repeats, to emphasise how much he would rather have his love open up her heart and speak the truth instead of spout bullshit politik

It is about the level of f*ucked upness of politik and power in the modern day world
-
For me, it is a song about a guy who has a relationship with someone or they are bf/gf and he wants to be loved by her more than anything.
-
It's about a guy who wants to be loved more than anything else.
-
The guy/singer wants his partner to give love to him more than everything else.
-
its about opening your 3rd eye and to bring your body and mind in ONE.
And the brainwaves instrumental is at the end.
"Open up your eyes
Give me one, cause ONE is best"
read the lyrics over and over till it makes sense to you.
you will thank me later -
This is a very personal song to me. My son recently died in a very traumatic way and it was the first song I chose to play a week after his death. I have been suffering from the pain of his death and loved him dearly. This morning, I played Politik and it helped ease my pain.
When I listened to the words, they touched me deeply and profoundly because they seemed to me to talk about depression and suicide and how a person should open their eyes and give themself time to find their own answers, rather than lose the will to live and take their own life.
For me the words give me heart and give me soul are about finding the one thing that makes us human, emotion. The strongest emotion is love. It is the only thing worth living for and without it we cannot live.
To all those suffering, please hold on. Much love to you all x -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Its about cold governance in my opinion, and Chris is asking for a little more warmth and a human side to politics. It plays on the German ideal of RealPolitik.
-
To be completely honest, I see this on a very personal level. It's like he's explaining to the listeners to find their innerselves. Dive into your inner mind, see what's really there, and not just what you see in front of your eyes. With all of that, he says to give me heart and give me soul. Those are the only things we all really need to see and be who we really are.

This song is about the current imbalance of wealth in the world that exists between rich and poor nations. I also think its about how global warming is mainly caused by the rich nations and how the poor nations will suffer more from it.

On VH1 Storytellers they said that this song came out right after 9/11 (not written for it) and that it changed what the song was about, and the guitarist said that it was all about how people see the world differently and its a very personal song for different reasons for different people.

Make Trade Fair. 'Nuff said.
-
I believe that this song is about the very organization that chris martin is a part of and promotes at every concert. "make trade fair." it's a song for the impoverished, those who are treated unfairly and who don't live sufficient lives because of political machines and greedy world leaders. "give me love over this." "open up your eyes." stop the b/s

I think you will find it's actually about 9/11!
