Princess of China Lyrics
Chris
Once upon a time somebody ran, somebody ran away saying fast as I can
I've got to go, I've got to go
Once upon a time, we fell apart
You're holding in your hands the two halves of my heart, oh oh oh
Ooooh Oooh...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:This song is deliberately vague and misleading with details, yet simple and straightforward because it's really about acknowledging mutual pain and hurt caused from a fated relationship that was never built to last.
-
2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:Its about a love that's falling apart and thoughts of how they could've had it all. Both of them feel hurt in the end.
-
3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:It's about a princess and her lover fighting and eventually breaking up. I think that "Princess of China" doesn't really refer to the country; rather the fact that their love/the girl was fragile. You know, like a china doll.

A bit obvious that the song is about a breakup but I find it interesting that the song goes through the breakup backwards.
1. It starts with the person(s) running away.
2. Then it talks about them fallen apart.
3. Then it talks about how they were always fighting.
4. Then about how they were on the same side.
Then it’s the chorus which was what their plan was about her being a princess and him being a king.
Anyway I thought it was interesting that it the breakup was told backward and the song was called “Princess of China”... thinking China because their language is written backwards (right to left). -
It could be about buddha, one story about buddha is him leaving his castle as a rich prince and leaving everything behind to explore the world. But I don't think that's the case.
I think it is about a friendship that turned into a onesided love. There are a lot of metafors which are about china "two halves" in the first couplet can be interpreted as ying-yang and the twi halves of a heart. It's about a girl that compares her love to beaing a princess and because of the metafors, a princess of china -
I think this song is about a fragile girl who trusted someone anonymous and ended up loving him but he didn't love her back and kept triying to controle her. In the end she had no idea what to do next so thats why she was hurting.

China is communist isn't it? Well I think it's about a king and his daughter fighting... "on the same side" "same game" "all we ever seemed to do was fight". The king kicked her out because maybe the daughter fought about the government and didn't like communism. So the king kicked her out and dethroned her sort of and disowned her. "you let me go" both the king and his daughter are hurt. Gee I don't know. I'm a 9th grader haha

From the past into the future The world kingdom
When he realized what he had lost he turned around trying to find her in this kingdom
She burned everything up he's turning time back trying to
Stop her from leaving him video
She is crying She is reaching the waterfall he is running to catch her
