Death Cab For Cutie - Stable Song Meaning
Stable Song Lyrics
Rows of deserted houses
All our stable mates highway bound
Give us our measly sum
Getting the air inside my lungs is heavenly
Starting out with nothing but crippling doubt
We'll rest easy justified
Suffered a swift...

The DVD is actually called "Directions" which accompanies their new album "Plans". Death Cab gave each track to a different director, as well as complete artistic license to make whatever video they felt went best with the song. A different video was played each week leading up to the release of the DVD at the beginning of the summer...It's quite fantastic, I do like the video for stable song a lot.

This song is about looking back on your life. It is a song about nostalgia, doubt, regret and longing. Ben says 'the gift of memory's an awful curse, with age it just gets much worse, but I won't mind' which really sums up the whole idea of this song. It's about how hard it is to look back on your life, regretting chances never taken, missing old friends and old times, but at the same time, treasuring the same memories that haunt you.
A really good interpretation of this video can be found in the video for this song, you can see it on dcfc's dvd called 'plans'.
