Death Cab For Cutie: Crooked Teeth Meaning
Song Released: 2006
Crooked Teeth Lyrics
Who's tears didn't care, they just hung in the air, and refused to fall, to fall.
And I knew I'd made horrible call,
And now the state line felt like the Berlin wall,
And there...
-
So... this guy goes for this girl for the wrong reason hoping it comes out okay. Soon realizing it's not gonna get better but just slowly decay and the longer you stay, the harder it is to get away... he feels it eating at him.
-
I think it's about making decisions with love. And trying to find love that was never there (Even though I'm pretty sure by the end he realized he didn't love her).
-
I think that this song is talking about a couple who lusted for each other so much and just wanted to be together.
They knew they didn't have what it took to have an actual relationship but decided to go and try.
The finally realized that there wasn't anything between them really and had to break up. -

-
I think it is about giving someone a chance. After giving them a chance, you realize that you shouldn't have. By the time you realize it, it is far too late, and you are stuck.
-
I think it is about doubt and the skyline teeth is like the doubts closing in on them.
-
I like to think this song is about the shallowness of one night stands.
-
Look closely for double-negatives.... and double-meanings.

He built a home for her in his heart but it decayed from the start meaning that all along he knew inside this was a bad relation and "hed made a horrible call". The treacherous streets and can't sleep part has two meanings. He can't sleep because he's afraid of what can happen in this bad area and because he's afraid of what can happen in this bad relationship.
-
He followed his heart and got with this girl. He didn't think about it, he just followed his heart. Maybe they were both drunk when they got together. Shes so cute when they are drunk because of beer goggles. Anyway, maybe the willow tree is a metaphor for his inner voice which is crying because the he is making a bad choice by going with this relationship. However, the tears refuse to fall because he refuses to listen to his inner voice. They share a bed in which he can't sleep because now his head knows its not meant to be. He can't find meaning in this relationship because there is no meaning in this relationship, hence the refrain. I have no clue what the bit about the skyline and the sun is about.
-
This song is about being real and listening to your heart. "my heart always speaks." and not trying to convince yourself that you like someone or something. When you know there is nothing.
