I'm not too sure about this one, but I'll have a go being as it is one of my favourite DT songs :)
Based on the opening lines and the chorus I think its about having something on your mind. And struggling to let it go.
Both verses clearly are about relaxing and trying to come to terms with what is on your mind. By either talking about it, or perhaps thinking of better memories.
But the chorus simply suggests the struggle to let go of that thought. Hence the line 'So I wither and render myself helpless, I give in and everything is clear.'
I believe the line 'I break down and let the story guide me' is a go with the flow kinda state :)
I believe this song is about dealing with your problems by just relaxing.
Any problems... relationships, work, illnesses, whatever :)
