Elton John: I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues Meaning
Song Released: 1983
I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues Lyrics
Don't look at it like it's forever
Between you and me I could honestly say
That things can only get better
And while I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long before you and me run

#1 top rated interpretation:Generally speaking, it is a farewell song. It is pretty ambiguous in nature, so it could be a couple that has to spend time a part for any number of reasons.

Lover in prison. Very comforting
-
Discussing the meaning of the song, Bernie Taupin said: "I wrote this in Montserrat, an island that, tragically, no longer exists. Basically, it's a letter home with a small tip included about making the most of time, not wishing it away just because you can't be with the one you love. Time is precious; read books, paint a picture, bake a cake. Just don't wallow, don't be content."

I was actually curious to see if anyone knew the names of the couple in the video?
-
I know what the video is about and I don't think that's what the song is about. I think the song is about two people who have nothing of importance but each other. I think they are drifting apart, either because of a disagreement or something else. He has left her and she is hurting, but I think the song (told from the man's perspective) is more to comfort him. The things he says to her are the things he says to make it easier on himself and he knows that they will be together again.

This song is about a man going into the military while his "lover" is back at home.

The best song when relatioship ends and you know you did your best
-
If you've seen the music video, it's a song about a young couple. The song is about your significant other going into the military service and being apart from you ("Time on my hands is like time spent with you").
-
I think it could be a song about a man in prison, singing it to his girlfriend!
