Evanescence: Forgive Me Meaning
Forgive Me Lyrics
Can you forgive me again?
I don't know what I said
But I didn't mean to hurt you
I heard the words come out
I felt that I would die
It hurt so much to hurt you
Then you look at me
You're not shouting anymore
You're silently...

#1 top rated interpretation:It's more likley to be about lovers more than friends. She made another mistake and she's asking for another chance.

Forgive Me is about Evanescence hurting her boyfriend multiple times. She didn't realize the words she had spoken, but when she was able to open her eyes and reflect on the conversation, she sees her mistake. It has a while since the fight so Evanescence doesn't know what to say, but her mind, body, and soul are screaming sorry. She believes the guy would never leave her truly. Her pain at hurting him makes her say she can't live life without him. In the end, it seems Evanescence's boyfriend forgives her and she says that he is her truest friend.

well, just like the title of the song says, this song is mostly about forgiveness, its a beautiful love song, i love it just for that.
she asks for forgiveness here but he gives her way more than that.. he gives her love and respect. how beautiful is that? i mean really, how many men would treat their girl like that? that's just so beautiful! -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think that maybe, someone told a friends deepest secret, and didn't realize at the time, and she just wants forgiveness, I can relate to this song.
"I heard the words come out
I felt that I would die
It hurt so much to hurt you"
She said the secret, she felt aweful and thought that she needed to be punished in some form, and that hurting this person hurts her 'cause she loved them.
But in the end she is forgiven, because they are good friends and the other knew that it was an accident.
I relate to that interpretation, that is why I interpret it that way.
Regards, Heartbroken Lover. -
I think it's about someone who realized her mistakes too late(I don't know what I said), and the one she loves has given up on her. You only shout at people generally if there is some emotion there. I think and I know you'll never leave me is just repetition of the lines he's told her before. But he will, hence why she is begging for forgiveness.

I think this song is about how she made another mistake and she wants to be forgiven. But she just makes more, because she says she knows he will never leave her. And when she's says
"yo're not shouting anymore
you're silently broken"
yelling to him is useless now, so he's just keeping the pain inside. -
It's about a person who let herself drift away from the person they loved and said some regretful things. They feel terrible, and want to be forgiven, they want them to know this time, they won't mess up, and they won't stray.

I think this song is definently about wanting to be forgiven(Which is obvious because of the title). I think that the person in this song knows they did something very wrong, and is asking for forgivness with all their heart for it. I know for a fact that when you've done something wrong to somebody, it takes a lot of courage to apologize, and ask for forgivness. This song is a great song to relate to, for anyone that has taken their anger out on somebody, when they didn't mean it. I love this song, and I just love hearing Amy sing it.
