Evanescence: Missing Meaning
Song Released: 2004
Missing Lyrics
But I won't be home again.
Maybe someday you'll look up,
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
"Isn't something missing?"
You won't cry for my absence, I know -
You forgot me long ago.
Am I that...

#1 top rated interpretation:Most people think this may be about her sister who died at age three, but I know it isn't. Because I can relate to it exactly. I broke up with this guy and when I saw him with other girls, I couldn`t take it. Then I told him how I felt. Later that week, his friend Geoffery told me about *ahem* Jason`s "hate list". I`m on it. I feel like I`ve been left in the dark and all alone. I miss him so much. But most of the time, I pretend to hate him to turn sadness into anger and keep the tears from coming that much.
UHHGGGHHH just stop! just because you can relate to it exactly, (or so you say) doesn't mean that's what it's about!!! ok, many ppl can relate 2 a lot of songs, but that doesn't necessarily mean that that's what that songs about! so just stop!! for all you know, you could b way off. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I think this song talks about how people, even though they may deny it, deep down they know people don't seem to take notice to them and if they do, they don't care about them. They want to be noticed and loved, but deep inside, they know nobody will miss them even if they did actually see them and they can't do anything about their longing.

#3 top rated interpretation:before I say something a reminder that this is my interpretation of the song and that everyone has an opinion.
i think this song is about how Amy(or someone) is in a relationship of a kind, and the partner dosent pay attention to her so she's unimportant and insignifecent to her partner. So Amy decides to leave and not come back. To her partner everything normal . So Amys asking "isnt something missing?" well to the partner not so after all they've been through he dosen't care and Amy knows this. But she wants the partner to care. In the opening lines of the song
Can you stop the fire, (Please, please)
i think this means that there's a problem in there relationship and she wants it to stop
Can you stand to fight her, (Please, please)
the partners having an affair and amy knows about it and is saying "can you not to be with her, can you stand to be with me"
You can't stop the fire (Please, please)
so his not going to stop this problem
his going to let it continue
You won't say the words (Please, please, please)
his not going to say the words to make everything better
with the pleases I think Amy's Begging him to stop
the chorus
Even though I'm the sacrifice
You won't try for me - not now
Though I'm dying to know you love me
I'm all alone
Isn't someone missing me?
shes the sacrifice in the relationship its not important for her to be in it. The partners not going to try to make things better, and she's dying to know if he ever loved her really, but she's all alone and wonders if she'll be missed in this relationship
as I said at the begining this what I think you can think what you like its your opinion -
it about a relationship ending she feel hurt this song remind of my ex
-
it about love and betrayal- this song remind me of an ex but rencently about a friend im still in love with he was say be there for me and few times told me he loves me then betrayed me in cruelest way and i feel like song make feel insignant too that im nor my love for him will never will good enough and its really hurts i trusted him and i still love him so much but he doesnt acknologe my feelings for him and it make really depressed coz i do still have feeling for him so this song remind of him
-
To me, this song reminds me after my friend moved away. I had no other friends and so I felt like everytime I walked in the halls of my highschool, no one would care if I was dead. I feel Amy Lee may have felt the same way, after losing something she loved and not sure how to function without it.
-
I think it's about being cut off from your loved ones. As you leave them for the last time you wonder, will I be missed? You wonder, do they really love me? In desperation and loneliness you think, I could be gone forever and no one would care, they despise me, I am an outsider and soon it will be like I never existed. You think, I would die to know someone truly cared.
-
To me, this song is about someones thoughts if they "walk away" from life as they know it, one way or another. And NO, this is not a direct reference to suicide. As they walk away, they think "Will I be missed?" I feel this is true because I think about this a lot: If I leave, what impact will that leave on the ones I know?
-
The song talks about how depressing it is to love someone and not receiving that love in return. This applies to everyone: boyfriends, girlfriends, parents, brothers, sisters, friends.
"(Can you stop the fire? (Please))
(Can you stand to fight her? (Please))
(You can't stop the fire, (please))
(You won't say the words, (please, please))"
- here, she asks how far the person would go to save her, to stop her pain (the fire), or to defend her from another person ('her'). She also states he (I'll put he for instance) won't say the words (I love you)
"Please, please, forgive me
But I won't be home again
Maybe someday you'll look up
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
Isn't something missing?"
- now, she states how she could leave and he wouldn't notice or even care. She goes further and with sarcasm says how he would totally forget and just feel a small void.
"You won't cry for my absence, I know
You forgot me long ago
Am I that unimportant?
Am I so insignificant?
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?"
- This part only strenghtens what I've said: he wouldn't feel her absence nor care for it. She says, hypothetically gone, how he would ask himself: "isn't something missing?".
"Even though I'd be sacrifice
You won't try for me, not now
Though I'd die to know you loved me, I'm all alone
Isn't someone missing me?"
- She states that he would not protect her from evil, and that she would die only to see if he loves her and misses her. Now, we get to know why she "won't be home again": she will kill herself.
"I know what you do to yourself
I breathe deep and cry out:
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?"
- She knows he does not care for her and repeats the same line.
"And if I bleed, I'll bleed
Knowing you don't care
And if I sleep just to dream of you
I'll wake without you there
Isn't something missing?
Isn't something..."
- In the bridge (what would be the "3rd verse"), she says she could bleed to death without him helping her. She says that she sleeps just to dream of him, (she loves him very much) but she wakes without him there (he doesn't love her at all) -
This song is about how the person feels that their loved one pays no attention to them and soon they will be gone because the decisions that the other person is making is driving them apart and how one day they will come to realize that they are missing from their life when any says " even though I'm the sacrifice you won't try for me" its like saying you won't change your ways even for me
-
this song is not about suicide its about the pain of loosing the person u love to another and that feeling of missing in your heart and how lonely u feel like apart of u is gone and all u want is someone to notice how hurt u are and how u feel like you are missing a piece of yourself hence the name missing

All of evanescences songs are perceived differently by different people depending on their experiences. Therefore amy lee's meaning could be different. Might be similar in some ways but everyone has their own individual experiences. This is the beauty of their music, so many people can relate to it.
-
This song could possibly reflect on the feeling of loneliness. The painful, unbearable sensation of agonizing solitude makes you feel as if you are neglected by everyone. Also, with a close friend or relative no longer physically present, that person may believe they have no one else to speak to, as if they were the only one left in the world. Believe me, I bet plenteous amounts of people feel this way every now and then.

when ever i hear this song it makes me think about the relationship i had/have with my mother. even before i left it was almost like i wasn't even there and then i left and everything is exactly the same as if i never left, or never was born. i know every song has a different meaning to different people. this is the meaning of this song towards me. :)
-
i dont know the meaning but im thinking she has to escape from the life she is in and the only way she knows is running away\ suicide... i dont really care about the meaning to much but the whole song i have allways loved for 11yeas
-
I have two ideas:
One, is that it's about someone running away and no one missing them.
Two, is that the protagonist is in a dark time and feels as if they are changing and going into the dark and no one notices. -
This song is about breaking up. No sucide hints here. No one will committ sucide because they do not care or listen. If one person ask to be listen to, or cries out that she is being ignored, she cares about the other one, about being heard. No sucide cares about being heard, they feel life has no sense at all, so no affection is given to any of life matters.

this song is about her soul mate who has been her lover in every lifetime but in this life time her soul mate forget about her and has no thought of finding her for this life time...even though she give her life away to her love in a old past life... her soul mate is fading away
