Fall Out Boy: Thriller Meaning
Thriller Lyrics

This song I believe is about becoming famous and not wanting all the things in between such as selling out to make more more. They don't want to be poster boys and have false lives they want to continue to do music because they're passionate about it not wanting to make money for it.
I rather be poor and love what I do than rich and become resentful. -
Ok so you guys keep getting parts of it wrong, I just got the CD yesterday(xmas) and it has lyrics in it ....it says
Last summer we took threes across the board
but by fall we were a cover story "now in stores"
Make us poster boys in your scene but we
are now making our acceptance speech
i found the safest place to cheat all of our mistakes
every DOT COMs refreshing for a journil update
so LOng live the car-crash hearts
cry on the couch all the poets come to life
fix me in 45
i take it as like some1 at some sort of therapist becuase a therapist has ou sit on a couch and you get like 45 mins
the beggining is like he is tellin his story....
later it says
I can take your problems away with a nod and a wave
of my hand because that's just the kind of boy that I am
the only thing I havnt done yetis die
and its me and my press my press one at the afterlife
...meaning its the therapist and he is sayin he's taking away the stress and how he is tired of his job and he calls in his next person to hear something new -
I agree with a lot of the interps so far... I just have one thought... That differs... everyone is saying 45 minute therapy... 45 minute album length .45 caliber gun.... okay those are all valid... but I always thought of the band as really being about the music and having quippy double meanings so it may mean all of those things but what I thought about when I first heard the song was an actual LP record... 45... like a way to connect themselves with music immortality.
The 45 rpm single records are made from vinyl plastic that is flexible and unbreakable in normal use. -
Last summer we took 3s across the bord but by fall we were a cover story now in stores- is like they got 3 outta 10 from judges or sumthing meaning no1 liked them but by fall they were really big and all. "make us poster boys 4 your scene but we r not making an acceptance speech" means you can make them poster boys and all but there still not really caring that there famus and all. "so long live the car crash hearts" is saying long live evry1 that's been thru tuff times (car crashes) "cry on the couch all the poets come 2 life" meanz lke cry as much as you want but its not gonna make things any better. "fix me in 45" is referrng 2 therapy (45 min) "I can take your problems away with a nod and a wave of my hand" means I can take your problems away by killing u. "the only thing I havnt done yet is die" means he's done like evrythng but die... kinda self explanitory and I'm just gonna stop now because I'm getting bord.... byz!

NO NO NO this song is about the internet. Pete said this in a show that it is about all the BS about that he reads about himself or Patrick..
"its like you find a lot of shit abut yourself in the internet that you sometimes want to go like Blog This MotherFucker *sticks Middlefinger*" -Pete Wentz -
This song is about how hard they worked until they got what they wanted. Also about how much people work to get what they want, but some people don't make it.
"Yeah, what you critics said would never happen.
We dedicate this album to anybody, people said couldn't make it.
To the fans that held us down till everybody came around.
Welcome. It's here."
Last summer we took threes across the board
But by fall we were a cover story "now in stores"
Make us poster boys for your scene
But we are not making an acceptance speech
I found the safest place to keep all our old mistakes
Every dot com's refreshing for a journal update
^^
when they are talking about how hard and such. They still want to remember all the fun they had. Awards and such don't really matter to them. They are doing what they love. -
45 might refer to vinyl records... am I really that old that no one else saw the connection? maybe, maybe not, I'm not the one that wrote it.
-
I think the line
Last, summer we took threes across the board- is a pun on words
meaning last summer we released the third best thing/ album,, an evening with your girlfriend, from under the cork trew and take this to your grave, to the rest of the world.
But by fall we were a cover story
"Now in stores"- meaning that their new album - story, will be big in stores
make us poster boys for your scene- I think is saying make us popular
But we are not making an acceptance speech
I have found the safest place to keep all our old mistakes
Every dot com's refreshing for a journal update-they don't need to make an acception speech because they believe that they are already accepted by the fans and all the old bad stuff will be shown off on the internet.
so long live the car crash heart- I think , I may be wrong but this is what I think, it is trying to say that all the people who don't like them anymore to bad
Cry on the couch all the poets come to life- I don't think this was fall out boys intention but do you remember I've got
dark alley and bad ideas , well the line poet are kidz who did not make is, I think this line is a comparison saying that people who could become famous as them , enjoy.
Fix me in forty-five- is a tricky line but this is my opiniion again , I think it means , take my place when he gets to old
dont know the rest but you get the point -
Basically this song is about how famous FOB became in a short period of time, "Last summer we took threes across the board but by fall we were a cover story" and how everyone is trying to change them but they won't let them, "make us poster boys for your scene but we are not making an acceptance speech" and how people flip-flop liking them, "the afterlife crowds are won and lost and won again"
-
Personally, I think it's about them as a band..but also sending a message to all their fans to just be yourself.
"Make us poster boys for your scene"
In this line, I think they're saying is that people say, "To be successful in this scene you must act, talk, sing, play and dress like this guys"
"But we are not making an acceptence speach"
They're saying that's not right, but they can't stop it.
I think the 3's across the board is either way.
I think that's what makes their lyrics so great is that they can have so many meanings and their all somewhat correct...and the used of catchy phrases! -
All off the stuff so far could be (in my opinion) correct. But I wanted to bring two things to light that I had noticed. "Car crash hearts" could possibly be a reference to the car (van) crash the boys had in thier early days they often talk about it when asked about significant moments for the band. It was a big obstacle for them at the time when it happened. "Cry on the couch till....fix me in 45" to me is about getting upset crying on a couch (possibly in front of a therapist) and then, after you're done crying, being stimulated by how upset or angry you are and writing (poets coming to life). The fix me in 45 thing was a tough one until I saw this half of us interview with Pete about depression and he said that playing a show is like his therapy because after getting upset (crying on the couch) and then writing about it (poets coming to life) when he eventually comes to tour every time he plays the songs live he gets to vent and relieve himself of those emotions. Therefore "fixing" him and these days aren't thier sets about fourty five minuets including the talking and dirty coming on and then the encore? Thats just the way I see it the other interpretations are really good though and made me think alot.
-
I totally agree with the interpretations here. The one line "We took threes across the board" it could mean that all 3 of their albums had three major songs... or maybe it could be that the third song on each of their albums became a single... Take This to Your Grave- Grand Theft Autumn, FUCT- Dance, Dance, or Infinity on High- This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race.... I don't know... just a random thought of a rambling teenager...
-
Okay, so I totally agree with the whole 45 min therapy session thing, BUT I also kinda agree with the cd length thing. I kinda think of the cd as a therapy session, you kno, just a time to relax and tune out my crazy life. So those both fit right? & this is one of my fave songs on the IOH album. one of my others is don't you know who I think I am. I think I'm gonna start a thread on that now.......
