Flogging Molly: Death Valley Queen Meaning
Death Valley Queen Lyrics
Since they crowned you in glory
Filled your head with dreams
But it still goes to show in every desert
There's a rose that's blooming for all to be seen
I remember you well from that town
You did dwell...

#1 top rated interpretation:This is the story about the girl that you cannot get. The one that has her heart set on the perfect guy... money, prestige, power. You are just the schmuck that dreams about her every existence, but you will never get any closer than the look alike girl that you pick up after too many gallons of beer.

Rumor is that Dave King told an audience that this song is about his mother, who once won a beauty pageant in Nevada.
If this is true then the lyric "Death Valley Queen go marry your King" is more literal than you would think.
It also explains why the song references Death Valley rather than somewhere in England or Ireland like every other Flogging Molly song. -
My feeling is that it's a song about how it feels when you realize that you screwed up a good relationship and it's never coming back. There's a lot of self-pity and regret in the lyrics. One of my favorite Flogging Molly songs.

This is basically a breakup song about what happens when you end a relationship with a person and know they aren't coming back to you again, because it just won't work out and there's no pleasing them... and trying to drown your sorrows in various ways.
