The Seven Deadly Sins Lyrics

Sail away where no ball and chain
Can keep us from the roarin' waves
Together undivided but forever we'll be free
So sail away aboard our rig
The moon is full and so are we
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins

So the...

Dave King has said in an interview that the song is a tribute to Joe Strummer, Johnny Cash, Luke Kelly, and other people who've been an influence on him and the band. It's also a tribute to the members of Flogging Molly and the way that they've influenced each other.

There are seven members in the band... just sayin.

    Dave King
    Dennis Casey
    Matthew Hensley
    Nathen Maxwell
    Bridget Regan
    Robert Schmidt
    George Schwindt

they are the sins, the songwriters, the band that uniteds us all against whatever may come. religion isnt always the answer.

apathy and sloth were considered one in the same as well. these two were merged at the Nicean council in Greece in about 350 ad.

actually if you knew your religion there were even more than eight at one time. however about 1000 years ago the "christians" they eventually became the amish and minonites merged vainity and pride believing they steamed fromt eh same sin.as with all religions they change with the need of the times. and 7 was even easier to remember than 8 or 13 or 26.

dear person with most recent post though you are almost correct there are indeed only 7 deadly sins for Jesus has never sinned and yet his has wept, cried, or also known as sorrow.

It has nothing to do with any of The Clash's songs, Johnny Cash, or punk music. A "tommy gun" is a Thompson M1928A1 used by old 'gangsters' and the United States in WW2 (It was/is known as "Tommy Gun," the "Trench Broom," the "Trench Sweeper," the "Chicago Piano," the "Chicago Typewriter," and the "Chopper").

Back on topic: The song is pretty clear to me, they speak of the seven deadly sins of Christian belief (coincidently there are EIGHT deadly sins).
    Lust - Sexual desire.
    Gluttony - Over-indulgence (over consumption).
Greed - Self explanatory. Desire to posses more than one has.
    Sloth - Laziness.
Wrath - Also known as anger. Tied with violence.
Envy - Wanting a trait or object someone else has.
    Pride - Feeling worthy.
    Apathy - Sorrow.

I believe it's about carrying on the true form of punk music and how its rebellious attitude basically saved musics true meaning.

Dave has said there is a nod to Joe strummer of the clash in the line "...Johnny strummed his tommy gun..." tommy gun is a song by the clash. This would lead me to believe the song is about how excesses led to the demise of many of punk's giants.

It's about the Seven Deadly Sins that are in the bible, and each one is mentioned in the song. The irony is in that there are 7 members of the band.
