Song Released: 1996
Jesus to a Child Lyrics
I guess you heard me cry
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
I'm blessed, I know
Heaven sent and heaven stole
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned
From all this pain?
I thought I'd...

#1 top rated interpretation:If we could envision Jesus descending to earth from the Heavens in this modern day time, the unbridled Love he would bestow upon the innocents of our planet, is the symbolism depicted therein. Those hallmarks of purity and innocence are the nexus to the untimely death of Mr. Anselmo Feleppa; George Michael's first true love. That we just lost George Michael not one week ago, makes the song ever more poignant.
In our darkest hour of despair, we often time yearn for those feel-good moments and crutches that can temporarily quell the pain...sometimes alcohol; sometimes substance. But rest assured...the grief is different for all of us. We seek love and acceptance and when it is abruptly taken, the ensuing pain can take its toll on the human spirit. Not six months into their relationship, Anselmo revealed he was HIV positive. Soon thereafter, he succumbed to a brain hemorrhage that took his life. When George Michael finally emerged from his sadness, he wrote this incredibly powerful love ballad, a powerfully and profoundly melancholy tribute to his true love. With its beautiful South American bossa nova style (Feleppa was Brazilian), its beautifully blended musical arrangements, soft beats, syncopation and Spanish guitar, the song, in all of its melodic momentum tugs at the heartstrings of anyone whom has ever had love...and then lost love.
How incredibly horrific, that George Michael has now also gone to an untimely death. An incredibly beautiful man and prodigious talent in every facet of his music; he struggled with his own sexuality as many gay men have. Yet within that struggle he managed to find love and then lose love. Somehow...I feel and understand this man's plight and pain. Yet when all is said and done; he gave us his incredibly beautiful gift of music...music transcends all of our emotions. I am reminded that in life's journey, we are always learning. I personally am grateful, that in spite of his pain, George Michael gave us gifts and he taught us lessons...life's lessons that are worth learning. I am deep in melancholy that this beautiful man is now gone; but I'm grateful for all he selflessly gave us... -
When we lose someone we love deeply, spiritully, in the end if we hold on we will find we did not lose that person. He or she lives on inside of us. Jesus gives us this gift out of his mercy for us.

I've listened to the song many times..the message I get from it and I guess everyone might interpret it different. Jesus's love to a child is pure, without any conditions, or demands. And I've just found out recently it was about his partner. So to me that would make sense. What doesn't make sense having read his bio is that George wasn't religious or spiritual from the little research I did. But personally I find that hard to believe. I just feel it from him and The lyrics to "You Have Been Loved" .."don't think that God is dead" and then his reference to Jesus.. Jesus to a Child. I don't know maybe you pull out of a song what you want, or what it means to you which is fine. But being a Christian myself, I like to think he was spiritual and did have some faith why else the reference's to God and Jesus? But mostly I pray he's in heaven and eternally happy.

Literarily the subject of the whole lyrics is Lost, Pain, and emptiness and gratitude.
George was the Child and the late partner was the Jesus in this subject.
So the words you could not say
I'll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I'll make it for two
For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be
My love etc.
In the above verses he was more open and direct to the point.
May his soul R.I.P. -
Poetry and song writing can reveal the heart pure and true. They give a vibrational force to be analysed by me and you.
In Jesus to a child, George was the child
Finding comfort in the knowledge of JESUS
The possibility of Jesus Smiling at him
And being behind the kind eyes that SAW GEORGE. -
When all is lost in pain and despair it is true that Jesus is there to help you through as said JESUS TO A CHILD.
I am a child of the Lord as you yourself are too.
And George is just that. A child belonging to God.. Whom is both The Father and creator of Everything that is.
Amen!
May God bless you and all the searchers, with further knowledge of Himself.
Pleasant dreams. -
More than a carnal love he had the opportunity of experience what I call spiritual love... it happens when one day you look this person and instead of seeing whats outside, you actually are able to see beyond that and get to see that persons soul...you see yourself in that persons eyes and theres a so called "click" you literally hear...thats when 2 souls recognized each other and become 1 , fulfilling and completing one to another...
Believe me this kind of love do exist and doesnt come to everybody...when u find this, everthing else falls in its place... -
I think it is about the love George had for Anselmo and how he left so painfully. like the way Jesus gives kids beautiful things and eventually it gets spoilt.

This song is about the purity & innocence that Love holds. We may have never known much, but in our Souls we know all there is to know... & that is enough to last me a Lifetime, Your Love is what keeps me alive. Even if we only had one chance to experience, at least we can console our hearts in knowing that God was gracious in granting us this one chance to Know Love as He intented it. Unconditional, Uninhabited, Spontaneous, Erotic, Painfull, Joyful, so much Bliss, Esctacy...Words can harldy capture a moment such as this. A Love lost and Hope & Faith to find again...I know God is Faithful and will grant Us this Purest Form of His Love...An undying Love, from the Beginning of Time to Infinity & Beyond. Thank you for Loving me this way...

This song is about George's love for his former partner Anselmo Feleppa, who had died in March 1993.

I think its about finding true love and losing it. A tribute to how beautiful and satisfying it is to experience it at least once in your lifetime. So when that love departs, either through death or choice, George still elevates what was.....something to be cherished. So PURE ' you smiled at me like Jesus to a child'. A Love as unconditional as God's love is a blessing
