Ghost: Square Hammer Meaning
Square Hammer Lyrics
'Neath devils torn asunder
You call on me
To solve a crooked rhyme
As I'm closing in
Imposing on your slumber
You call on me
As bells begin to chime
Are you on the square?
Are you on the level?
Are you ready to...

To be on square means to be honest, talk honestly and only truth.
To be level means to be trustworthy, honest and genuine.
This is partially connected to Masonic themes of being tested by square and level: to be square is to be trustworthy, to be level is to be humble, the same level as everybody else, not above.
Also, in many interviews, the members of Ghost band admitted they want to present a benevolent visage of Satan (which is a present in many religions/cults where he is a centerpiece).
We know the devil is the satan, so we can assume he visits a person who works and lives under suspicious conditions to strike a deal.
The conditions being often middle of the night, in darkness, plagued by inside demons to the level of pain (real demons or persons own "demons", that person's past), the person seems shady at best, tinkering at something beyond his right.
Crooked Rhyme to solve might imply a riddle that only a person who's not either square or level could solve, thus a crooked person.
Meaning the person called out by the Devil cannot do it.
And since the band Ghost likes to portrait Satan as a fallen out of grace (by oppsing the God) benevolent benefactor of humanity, he comes with help as to solve the Rhyme for the caller only if he proves he is all he seems and not what circumstances point towards.
A square hammer is a metaphor that might point to each strike of the hammer being done by the square person, thus actions being honest and trustworthy and the coffin in fact being sacred and not tainted by the working man.
So in the end, the some context is missing for me but the biggest point is: Devil is ready to help an honest man in a devilish endeavor only and only if that person can swear that whatever he tries to accomplish is of honest and genuinely good purpose contrary to what circumstances of the work point to. Devil is ready to take the blame not to taint the honest man. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
