Glass Animals: The Other Side Of Paradise Meaning
The Other Side Of Paradise Lyrics
Left to be a rock and roll star
He told me please don't worry
Wise little smile that spoke so safely
He booked a one way ticket
Out west that's where they'd make it
Six kids stuck in a bedsit
To sunswept...

#1 top rated interpretation:I feel like the song is about a two guys who are in love. One of them leaves to peruse his dreams of becoming famous, and assures his partner "Please don't worry." The guy who left for fame forgets about his young love, and finds a girlfriend. The singer is, as he should be, upset. The lyrics "but I settle for a ghost" picture the fact that the singer has never gotten over his lost lover. In the end, I think the singer shoots himself because of the lines "The bullet hit but maybe not" followed by "It hits my head and I feel numb." The singer continues to talk about how he feels numb, indicating how he died.

#2 top rated interpretation:i see this song as a reference to the great Gatsby, i dont know why but it strikes me as very similar, the guy who left is Jay Gats, the guy that was singing is nick carraway, and the lady that the guy met is daisy
also the name 'the other side of paradise' is similar to Fitzgerald's books titles 'this side of paradise'
i am not sure though, this is just how i see it -

#3 top rated interpretation:There are definitely homoerotic tones to this song. It sounds like the singer fell in love with his close friend, and that friend/lover moved away to pursue his dreams of fame. When said friend/ex-lover found this so-called "fame" and fell in love with a woman, he called the singer to talk about his success. The singer is quite obviously bitter about his ex-lover finding success and someone else to love. Though the lyrics may be interpreted many ways as the song goes on, it seems like the singer goes on to kill the woman his ex-lover is now with out of jealousy and spite, clearly shocked at his actions, and possibly losing his mind. In any case, this is definitely not a completely heterosexual song, and suggesting so ignores the context in which it was written.

I believe this song is about a woman who is left by her lover that is in a pursuit of fame and riches, who proceeds to tell her "not to worry" before he abandons her and head's west.
Then after the woman's lover has already left he finds some stereotypical bimbo to cheat on the woman with. And he also becomes very successful and wealthy actually owning a "gold Camaro".Which he let's his now ex lover (the woman) know over a payphone which causes her to break down. Then that's whenever the main chorus comes in, "bye bye baby blue ECT ECT" which I believe is ultimately just describing the woman's lover's loss of innocence by betraying her and abandoning her.
Then the next verse refers to how where the woman is from men don't abandon their lover and child. Inferring that before the woman's ex lover left her to become famous he impregnated her as well. Hence meaning the man abandoned the woman and his child for his fame. And that's when the lyrics change and it pretty much describes how the woman has lost herself and ended up killing her ex lover for what he did and for who he became even though she tried so hard to get him to come back. And then it hits her like a bullet what she just did and she feels numb.
Then the main chorus pls one finale time insinuating that the woman now too has lost her innocence and has done a very wicked thing. I could be completely wrong about the meaning, but that's just how I see the song. I hope this is helpful to someone, and like I said I don't know if my view of this song is how it's meant to be but it's just how I see it. -
I feel like its about a guy who fell in love with his guy best friend, who left him and lied about going to find a better life becoming a famous person, for some reason I believe the best friend lied about becoming famous because of the lines "where I was from in NOLA no one left to be a rock and roll star" just so he could believe he was busy, and instead finding someone else to fall in love with, hence "he'd stay and treat his lady, give everything to his new baby." and he found that out because there was no one in NOLA that left to be a rock and roll star :((

I think it's the story of a woman who's lover left to be a star, thus meeting a new woman, she finds out and shoots the woman, regretting what she did, she thought of doing the same to herself, but instead relayed the story to a son/daughter

I agree everyone saying it was about the lost of a lover/best friend that the person fell in love with however I don't think that the song has anything to do with murder and the "hope that bullet misses you" line is based on the phrase "dodged a bullet".
I think that this could either mean that the lost love/ friend gets out of the rockstar lifestyle that he is currently in or that they (the lost lover/ friend) don't fall in love again or breaks up with their girlfriend.
Idk so much about the last paragraph but so far I stand with my first one. -
Same person here!
I believe that the lyrics might mean that the person singing, Fell in love with his best friend, said best friend left him and told him not to worry. The friend then finds and girl and falls in love with her. When his best friend tells him about, the singer becomes angry and jealous but hides it on phone. But out of rage he possibly killed the girl and might have shot his lover. -

A woman was dating this guy and he went of to become famous. He meets a lady and he becomes close to her.
The original lady he dated has a meltdown and kills him by the lyric"the bullet hit but maybe not" and "bye bye baby blue" -
I think that this song is about a guy falling in love with his friend, who goes off to become famous at a young age. His friend then getting into a relationship, and he has to say goodbye to his "baby blue".

I think this is about someone leaving to get rich and famous, leaving a friend behind... the person who left then meets a girl, and they have a relationship. He tells the person he left about it, and they aren't really happy about the fact that they're stuck while their friend is out having lots of money and a relationship.
