Guns N' Roses: Sweet Child O Mine Meaning
Song Released: 1988
Covered By: Sheryl Crow (1999), Jasmine Thompson
Sweet Child O Mine Lyrics
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
she takes me away to that special place
And if I stare too long
I'd probably break...

#1 top rated interpretation:Axl to his love at the time. Basically she is the thing, that when he is going through life, is his reason of living. She brings good memories and a feeling in his heart that he can't get from the world. Maybe when he says "sweet child o mine" he says that because shes youthful and pure and he feels protective to her.

#2 top rated interpretation:to me, although written for Axl's lost girlfriend, It reminds me so much of my son, that was taken away from me way too soon. - He was a "Sweet Child of Mine" He's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see his face
he takes me away to that special place
And if I stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry.
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Sweet child o' mine -
This song is like the 8th song on the album and it's like a ballad for a hard rock band of the early 90's.

A father or mothers interpretation of their child both girl or boy as they look back at their own life And how time has slipped away. It is amazing when we have our own kids they take us back to our own childhood all over again.

I suspect this song is about a very young girl, but to me, it's about my son, Chase. You'd be surprise how many mother's use this song as the ringtone for their sons. :) - Chase's eyes were blue as the "the bluest skies and when they thought of rain, I'd hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain." - The whining of the guitar mirrors the extreme highs and lows of his life; the "thunder and the rain" did not "quietly pass us by." I spent many sleepless nights wondering,"where do we go, where do we go from here, now?" - In the end, I couldn't save him. He died in my arms at the age of 28. They played an acoustic version of this song at his funeral and "it took me away to that special place where I finally broke down and cried."

Very simple message here as I'm sure any true fan would know but I'm just gonna put it on here anyway. The lyrics to this classic were written by Axl about his long time girlfriend Erin Everly who eventually married but then sadly divorced. The song itself was an actual accident when Slash and Steven Adler were warming up and just messing around. Slah for the longest time said he didn't really even like the song because it moves slow enough to be considered a ballad. That being said it still is an awesome song that continues to be played over and over again.
