Familiar Taste of Poison Lyrics

Drink the wine, my darling, you said
Take your time, consume all of it
But the roses were only to drain my inspiration
The promises were spoiled before they left your lips and...

I breathe you in again just to feel you
Underneath my skin,...

This song is about emotional and psychological abuse. The woman is drinking the wine, that represents believing that all is well and she is loved.
Then she eventually realizes that he is no good for her, but she's not strong enough to leave. She compares her situation to wanting to wake up, and do what's best for her, but not this time. He remains underneath her skin, in her thoughts, and keeping her there, even though it's painful.

This song isn't about a woman's murder. Not in the physical sense. It is about thethelow and agonizing death of a woman in love with a man who is not(in love) yet he toys with her emotions and affections until she feels like death is the only escape. His not loving her is the poison that she keeps ingesting. "I breathe you in again. Just to feel you underneath my skin" and "I don't want to be saved. I don't want to be sober. I want you on my mind, in my dreams behind these eyes. And I won't wake up, no not this time." are the clues the she is knowingly ingesting the "poison" so she can keep him under her skin.

This song is neither about drugs or being poisoned. It's about being in love with someone that is very bad for you. Someone who is toxic for your soul. It is all about loving someone you shouldn't.

I think the song is about a women who was poisoned by her husband. I think the song and video could be from her point of view after she was killed, looking back on her life with him realising that he never really loved her, it was all lies. In the first verse when it says "But the roses were only to drain my inspiration, the promises were spoiled before they left your lips" could suggest that everything he ever said to her didn't mean anything, and that the last few years of her life were wasted entirely on a false relationship.

the song is about a women who is killed by her husband with a glass of poisoned wine, But She had long since lost the faith and the love for her husband, like we can see in the lyrics ("I tell myself that you're no good for me,I wish you well, but desire never leaves" or "But the roses were only to drain my inspiration, The promises were spoiled before they left your lips and..." which is laced at the moments and the promises during the marriage)...
this interpretation can be confirmed watching the official video.

This song is about a drug addict.

Drink the wine, my darling, you said
Take your time, consume all of it
But the roses were only to drain my inspiration
The promises were spoiled before they left your lips and...
(They know the drug isn't judgmental, unlike everything in their lives.)

I breathe you in again just to feel you
Underneath my skin, holding on to
The sweet escape is always laced with a familiar taste of poison
(They do the drug over and over and over again, just to know that it's in their body. But they know that each time they escape from the world, they're slowly killing themselves.)

I tell myself that you're no good for me
I wish you well, but desire never leaves
I could fight this til the end
But maybe I don't want to win

I breathe you in again just to feel you
Underneath my skin, holding on to
The sweet escape is always laced with a familiar taste of poison
(They know that the drug isn't good for them, but they can't help but use it. they try to fight it, then realize maybe they don't want to win that fight.)

I don't wanna be saved, I don't wanna be sober
I want you on my mind, in my dreams behind these eyes
And I won't wake up, no not this time.

I breathe you in again just to feel you
Underneath my skin, holding on to
The sweet escape is always laced with a familiar taste of poison

    A familiar taste of poison
(They're dealing with depression, and they realize that this drug is helping them. They decide that they don't want help, they don't want to stop, they just want to end it. So they overdose and kill them self.)
