   The song is very clearly about a couple doing heroin. Although the shadows on the walls of the cave is a clear reference to Plato it is also a brilliant way to describe the shadows cast when melting a spoonful of H.

   I think this song is about the drug of technology that us younger generations have all grown up with. It is numbing us to the reality of the world and makes us feel like we are looking in on our own lives from the outside, like looking at a social media profile. We should all quit, but we love it too much.

   "adding shadows to the walls of the cave" refers to the Platonic allegory of the caves. by adding shadows he wants to distract himself from the actual world like drugs sometimes do.

   It’s about a couple who enable and support each other’s addiction - lyrics seem to describe smoking cocaine. The guy has become more aware of the damage the drug is doing to them than his girl, and he’s trying to help her see the truth of their addiction and pleads with her to stop with him.

    Taking drugs he doesn't want to take just to change his state of mind as his thoughts have become unbearable and headed in an even worse direction like a downward spiral toward a life of being mentally lost in a fight for yourself and the hallucinations of being on the drugs to slow the mind or unlearn the truths of things you realize you actually don't want to know
