Imagine Dragons: Demons Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Covered By: Jasmine Thompson
Demons Lyrics
And the cards all fold
And the saints we see
Are all made of gold
When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood’s run stale
I want to hide the truth
I want to shelter you
But...

well, the first interpretation is usually the worst interpretation, so think again!it's not really a song with a bad message. if you look at the end of the music video, it says:
"in loving memory of Tyler Robinson, 1995-2013". this just means that someone has died and the song is just as a memorial of his life, and how he went through it. -
This song is about quitting an addiction. One that he can't hide from his partner anymore. "With the beast inside there is nowhere we can hide" is referring to how once the drug is in him, there is nothing he/they can do. It time to deal with it at that point. "no matter what we breed we still are made of greed" is saying no matter what they do together, his humanity craves the drug still. He can't control the desire for it.
Throughout the song I see him speaking to several different audiences to include himself, his lover, us, and even the drug he's trying to let go of. -
This is one good educational song. In who seems to be about a caring and consciencious Individual that doesn't want to hurt anybody. If anything, He wants to save the certain innocent soul away from bad temptations and guide her/him from the demons of this world that He knows of them and tries to keep them in check within his not so perfect self that is admitting he's a uncertain, but concerned sinner. He is not to sure of himself if he could always keep them demons in check, to not come out of him and hurt anybody that he truly cares about. For me the Protagonist seems to be like the Protagonist Holden Caulfield from ''the catcher in the rye'' book, who really just wanted to save the innocence of the children that he believed could be taken over and fall over the cliff, if They would not be thought and educated properly from the demons of this fallen world, which can influence Them the wrong way into the darkness that would take away the innocent shine in Their eyes.
-
I feel that this song is about someone trying to hide the self that no one else knows but also wants the other person to know who they really are, also trying to warn them that they might be scared of what the other person sees.
-
The song presents the wickedness of humanity and some how people fate and hope that comes to you when you try your best to fight the demons inside you.honestly I love the song.
-
The artists said that it's about not judging someone at face value because you probably don't know why they are the way they are
-
This song was dedicated to a 17 year old that had fought and died from cancer.
-
It's honestly about our personal problems and things. It's obvious. It's also kind of protective, and giving up.
-
I feel like this is a Biblical meaning. They're singing about how there demons inside of us, and it's dark inside our souls. "There's nowhere we can hide" that's saying that we can't avoid the monster inside of us with God.
-
This is a reeeeeeeaaaaaaallllly long shot, but he could be talking about how he is secretly a werewolf- "but with the beast inside, there's nowhere we can hide" :b

Imagine Dragons certainly has a few confusing but fun songs! This is the way I would interpret one of the biggest hits of all time, 'Demons', however.
I feel like this song is, honestly, about two things: both Christianity, and the enviroment.
In a Christian sense, it is talking about the happenings in Revelation. This sounds like it is the end of the world "When the days are cold, And the cards all fold, And the saints we see Are all made of gold; When your dreams all fail, And the ones we hail Are the worst of all, And the blood's run stale") and God is about to come down and destroy evil and Satan once and for all.
Now on to my enviromental twist on it: I also feel like this song is something the Earth would sing, warning us to become more eco-friendly before pollution wreaks havoc on the world, creating a desolate wasteland (as seen in WALL·E. It is the Earth warning us to take heed, before junk piles up compeltely and it is not fit for humans anymore.
Thank you for reading - it is okay if you disagree, this is just the way I see this confusing song. -
It could be about the badness in him.
-
I think this song is about a person trying to hide his past from his children.

I thought the song spoke for itself. It can be taken literally. He is possessed my one or many demons hence the "with the beast inside theres nowhere we can hide" and "look into my eyes thats where my demons hide".
The front cover of the albumn looks like some kind of exorcism too. Pretty freaky stuff.
To cut a long story short, he doesnt want the one he loves to be possesed by demons as they are extremely hard to get rid of and the only way to do it is through the true God hence the "unless you show me how". He is too far gone now and feels his only hope is if she helps to expel the demons through the only means possible the True God.
"The saints we see are all made of gold" is literal. He cannot call on the saints because they are no help they are just made of gold.
"This is my Kingdom come" is the demons Kingdom come. The devils domain is the earth. When the true Gods Kingdom comes he will destroy the demons. So for the moment, for as long as the true God permits Satan to rule its Satan's kingdom come.
Anyway that was my initial understanding of the song and these guys obviously have some dealings with the devil because the front album cover gives that away! -
Human emotion conflict far from simple. One who tries to be good protect others yet life takes it's toll.
Demons hide same place the good in us lives, in our minds and the conflict is within us as people.
Clever song that reflects our daily conflict and decisions where we each choose our path Good vs evil.
