   I think this is saying that we are all sinners and fallen short of the glory of God. That is why Christ came to this world to die for our sins ( drove you to the grave). Through Christ sinners came be saved and spend eternity in heaven. As a Christian I feel that this is acknowledging that we are are sinners with demons inside. Christ came help us to overcome those demons

   I think it's a sort of love song, him imploring the one he loves to help him conquer his demons ("I can't escape this now unless you show me how") but he still wants to protect her ("I wanna hide the truth I wanna shelter you").

   I think this song is about him loosing faith in god.he says nothing about a girl or someone he loves.and In the video,when he said "I want to hide the truth,I want to shelter you" he points to the sky

   I really think that this song means that people can look totally normal and sane on the outside, but they could have seen and gone through a lot. And that if really take the time to get to know them then, you will see the demons (memories) in their eyes. I just recently read matched, and when I hear the song demons, it reminds me of Ky and how Cassia took the chance to get to know him and then she realized how much he's really gone through an then later in the series, she can tell how he's feeling just by looking in his eyes.

   Maybe it's more literal than reading into it. In part, is it just trying to say how Golden Saints (Catholicism or Christianity) in general leads people on a false direction when truly it is still all about greed. The demons are inside the leaders of the church since it is all about greed and power anyway. As we look at the grand cathedrals of religion and how power and greed are enforced in the name of God. Perhaps the lyrics are trying to say you are actually being led by a false prophet. Then again, I may be totally off.

   i think the song is about human behavior and the fact that you can control the way you act around others. if you keep yourself under control everything will be okay, because you wont harm yourself or others. its a very good song and shows a good message i really like it.

    there are probably more accurate interpretations of this song than what i am about to say but to me, i personally interpret it to mean the following, I have Schizophrenia, MPD, and DID, i feel like the "demons" are my voices, and the part "look into my eyes, its where my demons hide" means to me that when my girlfriend looks me in the eyes she can see the mental pain i am undergoing, i keep up a facade of happiness except my eyes, this song made me happy, and inspired me to get help. i can't thank this amazing band enough for writing it.

    This isn't official, just my take on the song. It's about humans and human behavior, and also how we aren't perfect. He (the singer or Dan Reynolds) has a secret or something "dark" about him. He has his "demons" inside and for the sake of whoever he's talking to he's basically telling them to leave him alone because he'll only hurt them. He wants to help them or protect them but he can't because he's the threat.

    Ok to explain to all of you the song is talking about a psychopath that has fallen in love with a normal innocent girl and thwarting beast and the demons he refers to are the memories of horrible things he did or, went through that caused him to become a psychopath in the first place (the demons) and the part of his personality that makes him a psychopath (the beast). And once he's fallen in love with her he sees how truly awful he is but being around her puts him at a crossroads because being around her makes him feel sane again but like stated in the first of the song he can't hide who he really is forever (with the beast inside there's no where to hide) so he has to give her up so he doesn't ruin the thing about her he loves so much (i wanna save that light). So he's conflicted Cus leaving her means going back to accepting what he really is inside but staying puts him at risk of destroying her innocence so he doesn't know how to choose with out damning her in some way (i don't wanna let you down but i am hell bound) and he hopes she could show him how to be truly normal again (unless you show me how). That's what the song is about

    I love reading other people's comments about meaning of the lyrics :)
    To me, this song is just brilliant. Love the lyrics, love the band. I kind of understand this song - probably I'm wrong, but I understand it as a guy, not knowing how to tell a girl, that he stopped loving her. He loves her in a way, but not in the "right" way, you know, not like he did before.
    
    I especially love this part: They say it's what you make, I say it's up to fate, it's woven in my soul, I need to let you go.
